Analysis of the 3s-3p and 3p-3d Transitions of S VII from Laser Plasma

Forty lines of S VII in the 601-1103 A wavelength range are identified as transitions between the 2p53s, 3p and 3d configurations. All energy levels in these configurations are determined. Their identification is confirmed by the results of a parametric calculation and an isoelectronic comparison.

Additions to the 2p53s, 3p and 3d configurations in the neon-like ion Ca XI

Evgenii N Ragozin; S S Churilov; E Ya Kononov; A N Ryabtsev; Yu F Zayikin

In the spectrum of calcium observed in laser-produced plasmas 35 spectral lines have been identified as 3s-3p and 3p-3d transitions of neon-like Ca XI, including transitions 3s 1,3P1-3p 1S0 and 3p 1S0-3d 1P1. Relative positions of all the 26 energy levels within the 2p53l configurations have been determined. Identifications were based on extra- and interpolations of the residuals between theoretical and observed energies of 3-3 transitions along the Ne I isoelectronic sequence.

X-ray emission spectrum of a magnesium plasma heated by picosecond ruby laser pulses

A. N. Kirkin; Aleksandr M Leontovich; A M Mozharovskiĭ; Evgenii N Ragozin

An investigation was made of the x-ray emission spectrum of a magnesium plasma heated by ruby laser pulses of 10–20 psec duration and 1014 W/cm2 power density on the target surface. The relative intensities of the spectral lines were used to determine the electron temperature (200 eV), density [(1–1.15) × 1020 cm–3], and ionization state ([Li]/[He] ≈ 1) of the luminous part of the plasma. The relative intensities of the resonance lines of the H- and He-like ions yielded an estimate of the electron temperature in the vicinity of the critical point (Tcr550–700 keV).
