Solution of the inverse Langevin problem is presented for open dissipative systems with anisotropic interparticle interaction. Possibility of applying this solution for experimental determining the anisotropic interaction forces between dust particles in complex plasmas with ion flow is considered. For this purpose, we have tested the method on the results of numerical simulation of chain structures of particles with quasidipole-dipole interaction, similar to the one occurring due to effects of ion focusing in gas discharges. Influence of charge spatial inhomogeneity and fluctuations on the results of recovery is also discussed.

Formation of different spatial configurations for system of charged rod-like particles is considered theoretically and numerically, including formation of layered structures in the external electric field. Analytical model for a determination of the angle between the axis of a rod and the symmetry axis of electric trap is presented. New algorithm is proposed here for a dynamical simulation of many interacting non-spherical particles. Conditions for a correct replacement of the interaction between uniformly charged rods by the interaction of “bipoles” (i.e., by two similar point charges) are obtained. Study was performed in a wide range of parameters that are similar to conditions of laboratory experiments in a dusty plasma.

Conditions for amplitude instability formation in a system of charged grains placed in an external electric field are considered. The criterion for the development of this kind of instability is proposed. The proposed analytical approach is tested by numerical simulations of problem for Yukawa systems consisting of two particles. The influence of the formation of amplitude instability on the mass-transfer processes and on the dynamics of “leaps” in the two-particle systems is studied.

Summary form only given. The particle charge is an important parameter determining physical properties of complex plasmas, and has a significant influence on the thermal energy acquired by a dust particle due to various mechanisms. The magnitude of charge is crucial for particle trapping and levitation as well as for the formation of ordered dusty structures in a laboratory plasma.

Summary form only given. Effects associated with the anisotropy of the plasma often bring influence in groundbased experiments with plasma-dust structures. For example, particles levitating in strata of dc discharge and in sheath region of rf discharges can form stable vertical chains 1, 2.
