In this work we investigate visible transitions of Pr in the crystal Pr:LiLuF4. In particular we will report on the growth, emission and absorption spectroscopy as well as laser action at four different wavelengths. Findlay-Clay and Caird analysis have been carried out in order to characterise the cavity and the crystal quality. To the best of our knowledge the reported slope efficiencies are the highest reached for a Pr-based laser.

In this work we report on the 2-mum laser emission of LiLuF4 crystals doped with thulium trivalent ions (Tm:LLF) at different doping density up to 16%. We will present our results regarding growth, absorption and emission spectroscopy, Judd-Ofelt analysis and room temperature diode pumping laser experiments as a function of the dopant density. The best result is 56% of slope efficiency, with a maximum output power of 280 mW. The emission wavelength ranges between 1985 and 2038 nm, exploiting the vibronic emission of Tm in LLF.

Abstract We present the results obtained with a Tm,Hoxa0:xa0YLF crystal, grown in the new crystals growth facility realized in the Dipartimento di Fisica of the Universita di Pisa. The 2xa0μm laser performance has been studied for three different pump sources, a Tixa0:xa0Sapphire, a diode—tuned at 792.7xa0nm—and a Coxa0:xa0MgF 2 laser, tuned at 1.682xa0μm.

The authors report on the spectroscopy and laser results of diode pumped Pr-doped fluorides. We obtained efficient laser emission in the visible range with LiYF4, LiLuF4 and LiGdF4 crystals.
