Optical properties of coated flat glass

Abstract The methods of coating large areas of flat glass such as wet chemical, pyrolytic, and vacuum evaporation and sputtering are discussed, and the types of coating produced are explained. The uses of coated glass for solar shielding, insulation, and appearance in buildings and heating in aircraft are described, and the theories behind each use explained. Finally, the types of coating in use, for example, oxides, nitrides, metals, and metaldielectrics, and their optical properties are explained and related to their efficiency in fulfilling their intended purpose.
