We report the assessment by MRI of a lumbosacral lymphomatous localization of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) with human T-cell lymphotropic virus-1 infection in an African patient. Brain MRI detected associated multifocal lesions of increased signal intensity in the subcortical white matter. These MRI abnormalities are compatible with reported necropsy findings in cases of ATLL with neurological complications.

Sirs: Four patients presenting with associated dermatomyositis and muscle sarcoidosis have so far been reported [4–7]. The first three cases were Japanese, suggesting that a genetic trait may account for this particular association [4]. In the fourth case [6], the ethnic background was not mentioned. This prompted us to report the case of a young Caucasian patient who suffered from such an association. Recent immunohistochemical studies allow us to assume that dermatomyositis and sarcoidosis could belong to the same pathophysiological entity.

Churg-Strauss Syndrome is a disorder characterized by pulmonary and systemic necrotizing vasculitis, extravascular granulomas, and eosinophilia occurring almost exclusively in patients with asthma or a history of allergy. The clinical manifestations most commonly associated with asthma are mononeuritis multiplex, gastrointestinal, cutaneous, cardiac and renal involvement. ANCA are found in 2/3 of the patients with Churg-Strauss Syndrome and are usually p-ANCA. The treatment of Churg-Strauss Syndrome relies on corticosteroids and cyclophosphamide.

Central nervous system involvement occurs in 10 % to 40 % of patients with adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) but is rarely an initial manifestation of ATLL. We report the observation of a 21 years-old black woman who presented a paraplegia as the first symptom of an ATLL.

Abstract The clinical and pathologic features of giant cell arteritis of the uterus and the ovaries are described. The diagnosis of temporal arteritis was confirmed by random temporal artery biopsy. This observation is compared with previously reported cases.
