A two frequency, separated oscillatory field technique for multiple quantum transitions

B.O. Clark; D.A. Van Baak; F. M. Pipkin

Abstract We have developed a new two frequency technique to apply Ramseys method of separated oscillatory fields to multiple quantum transitions, and have applied it to observing the 3S-3D double quantum transition in atomic hydrogen.

Resonance narrowed lamb shift measurement in hydrogen, n = 3

C.W. Fabjan; F. M. Pipkin

Abstract A separated oscillatory field technique has been used in conjunction with a fast hydrogen beam to narrow the Lamb shift resonance in hydrogen, n = 3 and to make a precision measurement of this interval. The final result is S ( H, n = 3) = (314.80 ± 0.052) MHz.

Hyperfine magnetic field of 124Sb implanted in iron

H. R. Andrews; T.F. Knott; F. M. Pipkin; D. Santry

Abstract Nuclear orientation measurements of the hyperfine magnetic field of 124 Sb in iron show that essentially the same field is observed whether the source is prepared by diffusion, ion implantation, or implantation followed by high temperature annealing.

Precision measurement of the double quantum transition 32S12−32D52 in hydrogen

B.O. Clark; D.A. Van Baak; S. R. Lundeen; F. M. Pipkin

Abstract By observing the 3 2 S 1 2 (F =0) – 3 2 D 5 2 (F = 2) double quantum transition in a fast beam of atomic hydrogen, we have found for the 3 2 S 1 2 – 3 2 D 5 2 interval the value 4013.152± 0.098 MHz, in satisfactory agreement with QED theory.
