We report on a precision measurement of low-mass muon pairs in 158 AGeV indium-indium collisions at the CERN SPS. A significant excess of pairs is observed above the yield expected from neutral meson decays. The unprecedented sample size of 360,000 dimuons and the good mass resolution of about 2% allow us to isolate the excess by subtraction of the decay sources. The shape of the resulting mass spectrum is consistent with a dominant contribution from pi+pi- -->rho -->mu+mu- annihilation. The associated space-time averaged spectral function shows a strong broadening, but essentially no shift in mass. This may rule out theoretical models linking hadron masses directly to the chiral condensate.

We present measured dielectron production cross sections for Ca+Ca, C+C, He+Ca, and d+Ca reactions at 1.0 A GeV . Statistical uncertainties and systematic effects are smaller than in previous dilepton spectrometer (DLS) nucleus-nucleus data. For pair mass M{le}0.35 GeV/c{sup 2} we obtain (1) the Ca+Ca cross section is larger than the previous DLS measurement and current model results, (2) the mass spectra suggest large contributions from {pi}{sup 0} and {eta} Dalitz decays, and (3) d{sigma}/dM{proportional_to}A{sub P}A{sub T}. For M{gt}0.5 GeV/c{sup 2} the Ca+Ca to C+C cross section ratio is significantly larger than the ratio of A{sub P}A{sub T} values. {copyright} {ital 1997} {ital The American Physical Society}

Abstract: Two new species of the genus Scoliacma Meyrick, 1886 are described from Papua, lndonesia: Scoliacma suzannae spec. nov. and S. adriani spec. nov. The recently new described species Scoliacma flava De Vos & Van Mastrigt, 2007 syn. nov. is synonymized with S. heringi Gaede, 1925. Of all new taxa male and female adults, genitalia and a distribution map are depicted. The lectotype (now designated from syntypes) of Scoliacma heringi and the holotype of S. flava syn. nov. are figured.A bstractThe production of prompt Ds+ mesons was measured for the first time in collisions of heavy nuclei with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The analysis was performed on a data sample of Pb-Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair, sNN

, of 2.76 TeV in two different centrality classes, namely 0–10% and 20–50%. Ds+ mesons and their antiparticles were reconstructed at mid-rapidity from their hadronic decay channel Ds+ → ϕπ+, with ϕ → K−K+, in the transverse momentum intervals 4 < pT < 12GeV/c and 6 < pT < 12 GeV/c for the 0–10% and 20–50% centrality classes, respectively. The nuclear modification factor RAA was computed by comparing the pT-differential production yields in Pb-Pb collisions to those in proton-proton (pp) collisions at the same energy. This pp reference was obtained using the cross section measured at s=7
