Practical Quantum Cryptography: The Q-KeyMaker

In the next years the data transmission connections will constitute one of the principal tools of communication among cities, enterprises and public administration. With their enhanced connectivity, the systems and nets of information are now exposed to an increased vulnerability and new safety problems are emerging. Insofar Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) has matured to real world applications and can enhance the safety of the communication nets. In this paper we present the QKD network designed and implemented by Selex-SI and we give an overview of the obtained results.

Nonlinear optical properties of Bacteriorhodopsin by nonlinear ellipsometry

Chiral molecules are inherently noncentrosymmetric, they posses an electric dipole allowed second order and higher even order optical nonlinearities. We show that multipolar contributions to the nonlinear polarization can be detected by using a method based on polarization chart of the second harmonic signal generated in a noncollinear configuration. Experiments have been performed on Bacteriorhodopsin protein (BR) oriented multilayer film.

Second harmonic generation from multilayer structures

We present experimental results on second harmonic generation from multilayer structures, including metallo/dielectric and III-V nitrides, and discuss the collinear and noncollinear configuration. Measurements obtained as a function of incidence angle and polarization state of both fundamental and generated beams are reported.

We present experimental results on noncollinear second harmonic generation from III-V nitrides structures, discussing the collinear and noncollinear configuration as a function of polarization state of both fundamental and generated beams .
