Infrastructure and logistics divide: regional comparisons between North Eastern & Southern Italy

AbstractOnly recently has the inequity among territories in terms of infrastructures and logistics services for freight transport become the subject of several studies regarding measurement and assessment of operational functionality and correspondence of supply for real mobility needs. The efficiency and competitiveness of territories are features that may be analysed through various parametric-type and non-parametric-type methodologies and with the construction of composite indicators. In reviewing recent literature, this article tackles the theme of measurement and assessment of the logistics and infrastructure divide with reference to the search for greater logistic efficiency and territorial competitiveness, in function of the specificities of local production systems and pursuable models of development in the global context. Factors associated with urban non-fatal road-accident severity

ABSTRACT This paper reports on the factors associated with non-fatal urban-road accident severity. Data on accidents were gathered from the local traffic police in the City of Palermo, one of the six most populated cities in Italy. Findings from a mixed-effects logistic-regression model suggest that accident severity increases when two young drivers are involved, road traffic conditions are light/normal and when vehicles crash on a two-way road or carriageway. Speeding is more likely to cause slight or serious injury even when compared to a vehicle moving towards the opposite direction of traffic. An accident during the summer is more likely to result in a slight or serious injury than an accident during the winter, which is in line with evidence from Southern Europe and the Middle East. Finally, the severity of non-fatal accident injuries in an urban area of Southern Europe was significantly associated with speeding, the age of the driver and seasonality.

Aree naturali protette e strumenti di analisi per la pianificazione degli investimenti

Il lavoro affronta l’ampia tematica dei sistemi di finanziamento delle aree protette. Prendendo spunto dalle politiche pubbliche messe in atto dall’Italia per la salvaguardia dei parchi naturali, si e cercato di valutare l’efficienza di un sistema di prezzi quale forma di finanziamento di tali siti. A tal fine, si e condotta un’analisi sulla disponibilita a pagare dei potenziali visitatori di un parco situato in Sicilia, con il supporto di tecniche di tipo Contingent Valuation e l’applicazione di modelli di Stated Preferences per le indagini sulle caratteristiche socio-economiche e le preferenze individuali dell’attuale domanda eco-turistica.
