Cryptomeria japonica (L. F.) D. Don. is a species of great potential for planting in elevated and cold regions of Brazil. It is remarkable for its fast growth, good adaptation to the climate and soil of Southern Brazil, and it also shows a good response to silvicultural technologies. In addition, it is notable for the quality and diversity of its raw material usage for the industries of pulp and paper, plywood, construction of houses, furniture, boats, ships, etc. The experimental plan was bifactorial in the entirely randomized design with 8 treatments, 5 repetitions with 40 seedlings per treatment. The results indicated that for the production of seedlings of this species, the substrate soil + vermiculite showed the best development of the seedlings in 120 cm 3 containers.

The spatial pattern of regeneration of Aspidosperma polyneuron Mull.Arg. was studied in a remnant sector of the Paranaense forest in the Misiones province, Argentina. All individuals were mapped in a 210 m x 100 m area (2,1 ha). Univariate and bivariate point pattern analyses were used by means of Wiegand and Moloney O ring index. Regeneration showed clumped pattern to scales up to10 m and clusters of 30 m of diameter. No association was found between regeneration and both adult trees of A. polyneuron and standing death trees, whereas a small scale relationship between regeneration and adult trees of all species was observed. These results revealed that the regeneration of Aspidosperma polyneuron is strongly restricted to the presence of conspecific adult trees. On the other hand, the recruitments are associated with individuals from different species with DBH > 10 cm and infrequent in open sites.
