Intraepithelial propagation of prostate cancer to bladder

The possible occurrence is prospected of a prostatic carcinoma spreading by «intraepithelial propagation» along the urethral mucous membrane up to the urinary bladder. 4 cases are reported, in which endoscopical and cytological examination of the bladder suggests this possibility. The return to normal of both the endoscopical and. cytological examinations following estrogen therapy gave a ccnflrmatlon of the prostatic origin 00 the cancer cells detected in the vesical sediment. The recognition of such a possibility is of the utmost practical importance mainly for therapeutical purposes, since a unitarian treatment may be able to control the primary tumour and its vesical derivation.

Contribution to the cytology of urogenital apparatus. I. Cytology of bladder mucosa

The most suitable tecniques of removal and staining for the cytological examination of the bladder are described. The pathognomonic cytological findings for acute and chronic cystitis, benign tumours (papillomas) and malignant tumours or the urinary bladder are exposed.
