Abstract: The pressure drop versus low airflow was measured across a fixed bed of wood pellets. The objectives were to evaluate the low air flow permeability of pellets and also to determine the permeability of wood pellets as a function of moisture content and different directions of bed the measurement is done. The airflow range used for low permeability tests was from 0.0002 to 0.0220 ms-1. This value for tests on moisture content was from 0.0042 to 0.7148 ms-1. The corresponding pressure drop measured ranged from 0.18 Pa/m to 8.30 Pa/m for low permeability tests. Three models were investigated and compared for the low permeability data. The increase in moisture content also showed a decrease in the resistance to airflow. The tests on pressure drop measurements on different sides of testing column turned out with almost the same pressure drop along the bed.
