Mohd Hasyim Mumin; Fakhrul Anwar Zainol; Wan Norhayate Wan Daud

The issue of abandoned residential housing projects is a matter that should be given more importance in Malaysia. This research aims to identify what are the solutions from the perspective of blue ocean strategy (BOS). To achieve the goals, this research focused on reviewing relevant literature, observing the sites of abandoned housing projects, and collecting raw data from 12 cases. From the review of the literature, the interview guideline was designed to find out how the problem could be solved from BOS perspective. The case study method such as face-to-face interview was chosen to be used to collect primary data from 12 respondents. From the finding, the study revealed that the BOS four action plans: eliminate, reduce, raise and create, can be applied in overcoming the problem of abandoned residential housing projects. Therefore, the BOS framework can be adapted to protect the housing industry in Malaysia.

Flood is the largest natural disaster occurrence in Malaysia and is expected to exacerbate due to the various extreme weathers in the country. Despite the high risk of flood, flood coverage insurance policy is not always available. To overcome this challenge, this study attempts to achieve two objectives: first, to examine the impact of flood risk to the affected community, and second to develop a model called the microtakaful flood model to help the flood victims among the poor community. This qualitative research focuses on multiple case studies. The study found that there is a need for the poor to be insured with the flood coverage in order that they can resume a normal life with less difficulty post-flood catastrophe. The results of this study provide a significant contribution by introducing the microtakaful flood scheme to the industry that could reduce the governments burden as a result of the flood loss.
