A novel paper pH sensor based on polypyrrole

Abstract A novel versatile paper pH sensor has been fabricated from conducting polypyrrole (PPy) supported on a paper substrate. The response of this paper pH sensor is based on the conductivity change of PPy under different pH environments, which is monitored by measuring the resistance of the sensor under dry conditions via a specially designed four-point probe connected to a multimeter. Optimum conditions for the fabrication of the paper pH sensor have been investigated. The sensor response is tested in 2 wide range of pH buffers. Response time, reversibility, selectivity and response precision of the sensor have also been studied.
