Convenient and mild syntheses of two europium(III) complexes, Na[Eu(dipic)2·3H2O]·4H2O (dipic = dipicolinate anions) and Na[Eu(dipic)2·phen]·H2O (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), were reported. These two europium(III) complexes were confirmed by 1H NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and elemental and lifetime analysis. Interestingly, the lifetimes were 2.31 ms and 2.38 ms for Na[Eu(dipic)2·3H2O]·4H2O in the solid state and in ethanol solution, respectively, though high-frequency vibrations were present in the first coordination sphere. Furthermore, the lifetime for Na[Eu(dipic)2·phen]·H2O in ethanol solution is 3.23 ms, which is the longest lifetime reported to date. The Na[Eu(dipic)2·phen]·H2O complexes exhibited a quantum yield of 36.1% in ethanol solution, which was longer than that of Na[Eu(dipic)2·3H2O]·4H2O. The value of the stimulated emission cross-section (σp) for Na[Eu(dipic)2·phen]·H2O in ethanol was very close to the values of the Nd-glass laser for practical use, which showed that it had potential application as a high-powered liquid laser medium.

Fabrication of Rippled Plastic-Foam Targets Used for Hydrodynamic Instability Experiments

Qiang Yin; Lin Zhang; Shuyang Zhang; Jiang Xiao; Wei Zhang; Lan Zhou; Fanghua Zhu

Abstract Combination rippled–flat targets can be used to measure Rayleigh-Taylor (RT) or Richtmyer-Meshkov (RM) instability in inertial confinement fusion (ICF) experiments. To produce such targets, Br-doped polystyrene film with a sinusoidal pattern was fabricated, and the rippled film was combined with a foam by casting the foam solution onto the rippled film. Attempts at combining the target and the sinusoidal pattern are discussed. The morphology was characterized by optical microscopy and white-light interferometry. The rippled plastic-foam combinations were successfully fabricated using the mold technique. This paper discusses not only the production of the rippled plastic-foam combinations and the characterization of the sample morphology but also the film thicknesses.

Dicylopentadienyl[4-(4-vinylbenzyloxy)pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylato]titanium(IV) monohydrate

Fanghua Zhu; Yuancheng Qin; Jiehong Lei; Lin Zhang; Qiang Yin

The title compound, [Ti(C5H5)2(C16H11NO5)]·H2O, exhibits a titanocene unit coordinated to a styrene-substituted pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate ligand synthesized for use as a monomer for polymerization or copolymerization yielding metallocene-containing polymers. The compound crystallized as a monohydrate and the solvent water molecule forms strong O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds with the carboxylate O atoms of the Ti complex, which play an important role in the connection of adjacent molecules. In addition, weak intermolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds also contribute to the crystal packing arrangement.

Recyclable heat-resisting polymer poly(ether azaindole ketone)-H+via hydrogen bonding crosslinking

Qiang Yin; Y. Peng; Shuai Zhang; Fanghua Zhu; Wa Li; Kai Du

Chemically crosslinked heat-resisting polymers have many industrial applications, but are difficult to recycle or rework. We prepared a novel recyclable hydrogen bonding crosslinked polymer PEAINKH+, which possesses outstanding thermal stability including high Tg (246 °C) and Td (489 °C). And the hydrogen bonding interactions can be further removed via external alkali to recover the linear polymer PEAINK, which endows the crosslinking polymer with a recyclable behavior.

Preparation of Hybrid Nanocomposites from Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane Through Heck Reactions

Fanghua Zhu; Yuancheng Qin; Meiming Luo; Lin Zhang

Novel organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposites have been obtained by the condensation polymerization of dibromoarene with octavinyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane via palladium-catalyzed Heck reaction. The structures of polymers are characterized by means of FT-IR, solid 13C, and 29Si NMR spectroscopy. The results show that the POSS building block was successfully weaved in the structure without obvious alteration of the characteristics and structure. TGA results show that polymers possess good thermal stability.

Preparation of Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Nanocomposites via Pd-Catalyzed Amination of Dibromobenzene with Octa(aminophenyl)silsesquioxane

Yuancheng Qin; Fanghua Zhu; Lin Zhang; Meiming Luo

Novel organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposites have been obtained by the condensation polymerization of dibromoarene with Octa(aminophenyl)silsesquioxane via palladium-catalyzed aryl amination reaction. The structures of polymers are characterized by means of FT-IR, solid 13C, and 29Si NMR spectroscopy; the results show an agreement with the proposed structure, and the POSS building block was successfully weaved in the structure without obvious alteration of the characteristics and structure. TGA results show that polymers possess good thermal stability.
