Characteristic measurements of contact discharge currents were made through a hand-held metal piece from a charged human-body. Effects of approaching contact speeds on discharge current parameters, such as current peaks, peak current derivatives and spark length, were statistically examined with respect to correlation coefficients for various charge voltages

Electrostatic discharge(ESD) current waveforms in experiment measurement are sorted for charge voltage from 100 V - 3000 V, whereas electrode approach speed effects of discharge parameters are illustrated with the short-gap ESD model. Strong correlation exists between discharge parameters of electrostatic discharge and electrode approach speed. Two processes, surface process and gas electronic avalanche, in short-gap ESD model are employed to analyze the possible mechanism caused the strong correlation.

Based on requirement of new invented ESD measurement system, the automatic control system of pressure was designed to automatically control the pressure of experimental box. The proposed system uses STM32 MCU as its core. MCU, after received feedback signal of sensor, controls on-off state of solenoid valve with applying PID algorithm to output PWM impulse. Pressure of experimental box can set desire value and keep it stable. The design provides compensation to remove deficiency in original pressure control process, runs faster, more accurate and convenient operation than that before. The design provides accurate pressure environment in the experimental box of the new ESD measurement system.

A cylinder model of human body bio-impedance was proposed and analyzed with equivalent circuits and simulation method, so as to get some hints for possible medical diagnosis and physiology information. Neighboring effect exist for subject body placed in transverse electromagnetic(TEM) chamber. Description was given on frequency range for in-body ultra-wide band communication channel, and on correlation between people age and electric parameters of permeability, conductivity in skin and muscles of human body.

Based on description of human body bio-impedance transmission property of communication channel on-body is discussed. In frequency range of (3-5)GHz human body has a good response to signal transportation. Considering bit error rate(BER) of channel on-body binary phase switch keying(BPSK) has better performance than other modulation for wireless body area network(WBAN).

Strong effect of moving electrode speed on discharge parameters exists in short-gap electrostatic discharge. Considering Townsend theory and streamer theory of electrostatic discharge, theoretical analysis with principles of fluid mechanics is employed on mechanism of electrode moving speed effect on discharge parameters. An algorithm is proposed and the simulation result gives estimation of theory description proposed.

Spark discharge can be described with Townsend theory or streamer discharge theory. Short-gap electrostatic discharge(ESD) is a special electric spark and related largely to gas pressure variation. Transition characteristics of two subprocesses, surface process and avalanche process, are considered in short gap ESD. Simulation results from numerical algorithm verified primarily theoretical description of electrode moving speed effect on discharge parameter in short gap ESD. Electrode large speed reduces the influence from avalanche process while enhances the action of surface process in the entire process of electrostatic discharge.

Moving electrode speed has strong effect on discharge parameters in short-gap electrostatic discharge. In view point of fluid mechanics, and based on Townsend theory and streamer theory of electrostatic discharge, theoretical analysis is presented to analyze mechanism of electrode speed effect on discharge parameters. An algorithm is proposed and the simulation result gives estimation of theory description proposed. Electrode fast speed weakens action of avalanche process while strengthens surface process in the whole process of electrostatic discharge. The result shows that discharge current raise up sharply with reduction of air pressure.

Non-contact electrostatic discharge(ESD) taken popularly place in many situations, of military weapon, industrial product, aerospace vehicle, and even in people daily living. Discharge current pulse in non-contact electrostatic discharge with small gap has rise time in nanoseconds, produced wide band disturbance, hence may resulted in serious threat or even damage to microelectronic systems and electronic products. A new electrostatic discharge test system has been designed and made to test electrostatic discharge with different gaps, so as to research their strong influence on discharge result. A design of gap-measuring was proposed for the new ESD test system. Based on the module proposed test data was sent to PLC and and be compared with the position. Discharge current corresponding to each discharge gap was simultaneously measured and analysed, aiming to improve quantitative research of non-contact ESD properties.
