Diazabenzo crowns grafted on the polystyrene and application of extraction of metal cations

Mokhtar Dardouri; Abir Bel Hadj Amor; Faouzi Meganem

AbstractThe study of the new structures mainly useful in the synthesis of more efficient and selective new extractants led to the development of new series of macromolecules. Hence, in our present experiment, the expanded polystyrene packaging waste was chemically modified. Then, the functionalization of polystyrene recovered by the direct blending and grafting of a benzenic crown ether group was carried out. The obtained resins were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray diffraction. The ability to extract metallic cations (Cr3+, Fe3+, Ni2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+) contained in an aqueous solution was done by the grafted or ungrafted polymers by crown ethers. Obtained results showed higher extraction percentages for resin 4, thus, suggesting it had important extracting capacity compared with resin 3.

Aminoalkylated Merrifield Resins Reticulated by Tris-(2-chloroethyl) Phosphate for Cadmium, Copper, and Iron (II) Extraction

Mokhtar Dardouri; Fayçel Ammari; Faouzi Meganem

We aimed to synthesize novel substituted polymers bearing functional groups to chelate heavy metals during depollution applications. Three polyamine functionalized Merrifield resins were prepared via ethylenediamine (EDA), diethylenetriamine (DETA), and triethylenetetramine (TETA) modifications named, respectively, MR-EDA, MR-DETA, and MR-TETA. The aminoalkylated polymers were subsequently reticulated by tris-(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) to obtain new polymeric resins called, respectively, MR-EDA-TCEP, MR-DETA-TCEP, and MR-TETA-TCEP. The obtained resins were characterized via attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), elemental analysis (EA), and thermogravimetric (TGA), thermodynamic (DTA), and differential thermogravimetric (DTG) analysis. The synthesized resins were then assayed to evaluate their efficiency to extract metallic ions such as Cd2

Structure and Electrical Study of New Chemically Modified Poly(vinyl chloride)

Fayçel Ammari; Mokhtar Dardouri; M. Kahlaoui; Faouzi Meganem

The aim of this work was to study the structural and electrical properties of a new polymer obtained by functionalization of a commercial poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) (Mw = 48000) by grafting aminoalkyl and aminoaryl groups. Modified poly(vinyl chloride) was prepared in two steps. The structural properties of the polymer were systematically investigated by varieties of techniques as differential scanning calorimetric (DSC), thermogravimetry analysis (TG), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The electrical properties of the polymer were studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).

Preparation, characterization and ion adsorption properties of functionalized polystyrene modified with 1,4-phenylene diisocyanate and diethylenetriamine

Mokhtar Dardouri; Abir ben Hadj Amor; Faouzi Meganem

In the present work, linear polystyrene (PS) was functionalized by a sulfonation reaction providing sulfonated polystyrene (PSS). Then, the PSS polymer chains were cross-linked with the 1,4-phenylene diisocyanate (PPDI) group in tetrahydrofuran (THF), which led to a PSS-PPDI polymer. The PSS-PPDI was grafted by diethylenetriamine (DETA) in a solution of THF to obtain polymer PSS-PPDI-DETA. Their structures were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), elemental analysis (EA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravemetric (TGA), thermodynamic (DTA) and differential thermogravimetric (DTG) analysis. Subsequently, the obtained polymers were tested for their ability to remove some metal ions from aqueous media such as Zn2+, Cd2+ and Co2+.

Crystal structure of 2,3-dihydronaphto[2,3-b) [1,5] dioxepin

T. Ben Chaabane; A. Ould Hadou; Faouzi Meganem

The X-ray single crystal structure of C13H12O2 compound was determined. It crystallizes in the orthorombic space group P212121 with a = 7.8847(7), b = 9.639(1), c = 13.432(2) Å, Z = 4 and V = 1020.8(3) Å3. The final R converged to 0.037 for 1763 independent reflexions. The title compound forms layers parallel to (1 0 0) planes and the three dimensional cohesion of the crystal is assumed by Van der Waals interactions. The molecule consists of two six-membered rings (A and B) and a seven-membered ring (C). A and B rings are planar, whereas the C ring has a chair conformation
