Two new complexes, [Ni(HL1)(N3)(μ1,1N3)]2 (1) [HL1: NC5H4CH3C=NNH (C=O) NH2] and [Ni(L2)N3] (2) [HL2: NC5H4HC=N NH(C=S)NH2], have been synthesized by reaction of Ni(OAC)2·4H2O and sodium azide with HL1 and HL2 and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, and UV–vis spectral studies. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that 1 is dinuclear with nickel(II) in an octahedral environment of NNO donors of HL1, two nitrogens of azide bridges and one nitrogen of terminal azide; 2 is mononuclear containing nickel(II) in a distorted square-planar environment of NNS donors of HL2 and one terminal azide. The structures of 1 and 2 have been optimized by density functional theory. The results of antimicrobial activities of ligands, 1 and 2 demonstrated that HL2 and 2 have good antimicrobial activity in contrast with HL1 and 1, related to the presence of sulfur donor in HL2. [Mn(L)(μ1,1–N3)2]2 n [Mn(H2O)2(μ1,1–N3)2] n (1) and [Cd(HL)(μ1,1–N3)2] n (2) have been synthesized from HL (HL: pyridine-2-carbaldehyde semicarbazone) and azide ligands, characterized by FT-IR, UV–vis spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. Single crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that 1 is a coordination polymer consisting of two infinite 1-D chains: chain A with [Mn(L)(μ1,1–N3)2]2 n and chain B with [Mn(H2O)2(μ1,1–N3)2] n . In both chains, Mn centers are connected via two double end-on (EO) azide bridges. 2 is a coordination polymer consisting of a 1-D infinite chain, where Cd centers are connected via two double EO azide bridges. The electrochemistry of HL, 1 and 2 were studied by cyclic voltammetry. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate bulk ferromagnetic coupling for 1 below 5 K. Antimicrobial activities of both compounds 1 and 2 were greater than HL, with the strongest effect for 2 consistent with its larger radius and electronegativity of Cd(II) ions.

Phosphotungstic acid supported on aminosilica functionalized perovskite-type LaFeO3 nanoparticles: a novel recyclable and excellent visible-light photocatalyst

Saeed Farhadi; Mostafa M. Amini; Farzaneh Mahmoudi

In this research, a novel nanohybrid compound, LaFeO3@SiO2–NH2/PTA has been prepared, in which H3PW12O40 (abbreviated as PTA) was successfully anchored onto the surface of 3-aminopropylsilica modified LaFeO3. The resultant nanohybrid compound was characterized with XRD, FT-IR, ICP-MS, FESEM, EDX, TEM, BET, and AFM techniques. The magnetic properties of all the synthesized compounds and hybrid compound were measured using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) at room temperature. The photocatalytic activity of the hybrid compound was assessed by degradation of methylene blue (MB) in aqueous solution under visible light irradiation. Compared with the bare LaFeO3 and pure PTA, the newly synthesized hybrid compound exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation. This enhancement could be attributed to the synergistic effect between LaFeO3 and PTA. After the photocatalytic reaction, the hybrid compound can be easily separated from the reaction solution and reused several times without loss of its photocatalytic activity. Moreover, a possible photocatalytic mechanism was proposed.
