OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to compare the effects of two different solutions used for pin site care in patients with external fixators on the incidence of pin site infection. METHODS The study included 133 pins of 18 patients. The patient identification form, pin site care application form and the pin tract infection assessment form developed by Checketts et al. were used as data collection tools. On the condition that it would be evenly applied on the number of pins available in a patient, a 10% povidone-iodine solution was used in the care of 68 pin sites and 2 mg/ml chlorhexidine was applied at 65 pin sites. Infections developing in the pin sites were graded and recorded. Pin site care was applied routinely on a daily basis until the patient was discharged. RESULTS Infection was observed in 19 (27.9%) of the 68 pins of patients in the povidone-iodine group. Infection developed in only 6 (9.2%) of 65 pins in the chlorhexidine group. CONCLUSION Use of 2 mg/ml chlorhexidine in pin site care appears to decrease the prevalence of pin tract infection.

The present study aimed to determine the effect of long-term care and follow-up on complications in patients with external fixators. This study was conducted as a study research. The study sample included a total of 60 patients treated with external fixators for fractures, of whom 30 were in the control and 30 were in the study group. No intervention was made on the control group patients. The patients in the study group received external fixator pin site wound care, pin site massage and neurovascular follow-up. The study group patients were also given discharge training about external fixator pin site care two days before their discharge and were also provided with training manuals to guide their home care. Both groups were visited weekly at their homes to record their complications. Nine complications developed in eight patients (26.7%) in the study group, and 19 complications developed in 19 patients (63.3%) in the control group. Pin site infections were 11.6% of the total sample. The percentage for pin loosening, stiff joint, nerve and vessel injury and pain and swelling was 5%, 25%, 1.7% and 3.3%, respectively.

Maintaining adequate nursing staff is a real challenge that many healthcare organizations are facing. Many factors have been identified to positively influence the reduction of Turnover Intention (TI) among employees. One significant factor recently discussed in the literature that requires more attention is supervisor support in the workplace. Aim. This systematic review of the literature aims to: (a) review and critique the published research on supervisor support in the workplace as an approach to reduce TI, (b) synthesize the findings across studies, and (c) identify the gaps in the literature and make recommendations for further research. Methods. Five steps to conducting a systematic review were adopted (Khan, et. al, 2003). These steps included (a) framing the question as “What is the relationship between supervisor support and TI” (b) identifying relevant work, (c) assessing the quality of studies, (d) summarizing the evidence, and (e) interpreting the findings. Electronic literature databases CINAHL, Academic Search Complete, Business Source Premier, Education Research Complete, Health Source, and PsycINFO were searched for review using a combination of keywords. Results. In total, 318 unique publications were located. After reading titles and abstracts, a total of 14 studies were selected for initial review. Examination of the reference lists of these 14 studies revealed eight more studies to be included in the initial review. After screening, a total of 12 articles were included in this systematic review. All 12 studies reported a negative association between supervisor support and TI. However, there were variations in the strength of this association. The purpose of the study was explore and describe experiences of student teachers currently registered for the BCUR degree studying in an ODL university. The degree comprises nursing education and management and the students had attended the teaching practice workshop, a component of nursing education programme. An explorative, descriptive, interpretative and qualitative design was conducted to explore student teachers’ experiences of the teaching practice workshop they have attended. The interviews were conducted on twenty student nurse educators who participated in the study. Purposive sampling which is based on the belief that the researcher’s knowledge about the population can be used to hand pick sample elements was used. The study yielded both positive and negative experiences. The positive was the provision of environment, which exposed them to teaching, and acquisition of pedagogical skills. Negative experience were also reported including poor and inaccessible orientation, outdated study guide and workbook, ineffective feedback and a very short period of exposure to teaching practice. Workshops to be divided into two phases, first phase for orientation and second phase for teaching practice and assessment. Students to be thoroughly prepared re on-line teaching.P nursing method is an important concept for operative nurses who aim to provide a holistic care to the patient, from preoperative, intraoperative to postoperative periods. In this article, we applied this method to attend to a 63 years old women diagnosed with uterine prolapse with cystocele and underwent pelvic reconstruction surgery. We attended the patient from the 8th of September 2016 to the 11th of September 2016, and we collected the patient’s data via interviews, observations, and thorough communications. The author applied the Gordon 11-item health assessment scale to identify potential nursing issues. Nursing diagnoses included: Anxiety in preoperative, risk of urinary retention and infection, risk of perioperative positioning injuries in intraoperative, and knowledge deficit in postoperative. In addition, cultural beliefs influence the perception of disease in Asian women significantly, especially those with gynecological diseases. Therefore, in addition to monitoring the psychological condition and providing mental support to the patient in preoperative, perioperative nursing methods also provided the patient and her family with knowledge of the disease, and information on the surgery procedure to reduce preoperative anxiety. Intraoperative nursing is to prevent harm and risk as a direct result from surgical procedures, operation room environment and equipment. Postoperative nursing offered knowledge for patient care after the surgery and daily care after discharge. The purpose of this article is to emphasize on the importance of perioperative nursing and facilitate nurses to exert their professional perspectives in order to achieve the goal of holistic and personalized healthcare for each individual.A participatory research was conducted from 2013 to 2015 in communities in Chia-yi County in Taiwan. The research not only explored residents’ attitudes toward community-based intervention but also investigated the effectiveness of the intervention “Chatting in front of the Temple” on health promotion among residents in these rural communities. The study was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, attempts were made to conduct community-based health promotion interventions from the perspective of

This trial was conducted to investigate the effect of chest physiotherapy in different positions on the heart and the respiratory system after coronary artery bypass surgery. Patients are divided into two groups of 30 patients each in the study. To the patients in the first group (30 patients), percussion–vibration was performed in the 45° supine position, while slightly laterally lying and endotracheal aspiration was performed in the supine position. To the patients in the second group (30 patients), percussion–vibration was performed in the 0° supine position, while slightly laterally lying and endotracheal aspiration was performed in the supine position. The procedures are repeated two times for all patients and their means were taken. The pre- and postapplication values of patients were measured from central venous and arterial catheters and the values of patient monitors were recorded. Comparison of the two groups in terms of respiratory values did not reveal a significant difference, but chest physiotherapy with the head of the bed at 0° was determined to improve cardiac functions. Evaluation of the groups in terms of pre- and postphysiotherapy applications showed a significant increase in mixed venous oxygen saturation in both groups. Chest physiotherapy with the head of the bed elevated to 45° may be recommended in patients who carry a risk of pulmonary complications and who are candidates for chest physiotherapy at an early stage.
