Fragmentation of alkoxychlorocarbenes in the gas phase

Michael E. Blake; Maitland Jones; Fengmei Zheng; Robert A. Moss

Abstract In contrast to photolysis or thermal decomposition in solution, which is dominated by ionic reactions, flash vacuum pyrolysis of alkylchlorodiazirines in the gas phase generates radicals. The cyclopropylcarbinyl system is re-examined and the 1-norbornylcarbinyl system is studied for the first time.

Tetrahedron Letters | 2001

Rearrangements of cyclopropylmethylchlorocarbene and dicyclopropylmethylchlorocarbene

Robert A. Moss; Wei Ma; Shunqi Yan; Fengmei Zheng

Abstract Cyclopropylmethylchlorocarbene ( 3 ) and dicyclopropylmethylchlorocarbene ( 4 ) give only 1,2-H shift products with k H =2.0×10 7 and 1.3×10 7 s −1 , respectively, at 25°C.

Tetrahedron Letters | 2001

Probing charge alteration in the π-mediated rearrangement of 1-indanylchlorocarbene

Robert A. Moss; Wei Ma; Fengmei Zheng; Ronald R. Sauers

Abstract The ‘phenyl’ carbon migration of 1-indanylchlorocarbene is accelerated by appropriate aromatic methoxyl substitution in accord with a π-mediated rearrangement mechanism.

Journal of the American Chemical Society | 2001

The 2-norbornyl cation via the fragmentations of exo- and endo-2-norbornyloxychlorocarbenes: distinction without much difference.

Robert A. Moss; Fengmei Zheng; Ronald R. Sauers; John P. Toscano

Journal of the American Chemical Society | 2002

Bridgehead carbocations via carbene fragmentation: Erasing a 1010 kinetic preference

Robert A. Moss; Fengmei Zheng; Jean-Marie Fede; Yan Ma; Ronald R. Sauers; John P. Toscano; Brett M. Showalter

The Fragmentation of Alkoxychlorocarbenes in Hydrocarbon Solvents and in Low Temperature Argon Matrixes

Robert A. Moss; Yan Ma; Fengmei Zheng; Ronald R. Sauers; Thomas Bally; Alexander Maltsev; John P. Toscano; Brett M. Showalter

Organic Letters | 2001

Rearrangement Kinetics of Spiropentylchlorocarbene, [3]Triangulylchlorocarbene, and Related Species
