Influence of Load in Performance of the Static Excitation Control of Synchronous Generator

Fernando Bento Silva; Wagner Eduardo Vanco; Felipe A. da Silva Gonçalves; Carlos Augusto Bissochi Junior; Joao Paulo Amaral Duarte; Geraldo Caixeta Guimarães

This paper has as its prime objective to analyze the performance of a static excitation system in function of the type of load applied to the synchronous generator. This is seen through how the magnitude, the power factor and the load variation rate influence the working of the excitation system in the restoration of the generators terminal voltage. Also shown is the influence of the non-linear load in this type of excitation system.

Experimental Analysis of Harmonic Distortion in Isolated Induction Generators

Fernando Bento Silva; Wagner Eduardo Vanco; Felipe A. da Silva Gonçalves; Carlos Augusto Bissochi Junior; Daniel Pereira de Carvalho; Luciano Martins Neto

The use of induction generator, replacing the continuous and synchronous generators, has proved to be an interesting solution for the supply of electricity in remote areas where the supply through a distribution network is not economically viable. In some cases the use of this type of machine has shown itself to be convenient, where it is associated with unconventional power systems, such as wind and hydro generation small. In these isolated systems is common to use cage induction generators with excitation capacitors, known as self excited induction generators. Allied to this, there has been an increase in the number of non-linear loads, at all levels of electricity consumption. Thus, it becomes necessary to study experimentally the harmonic distortion of voltage and current in this type of generator, which can supply non-linear loads that may be present in these remote areas.

Raul Vitor Arantes Monteiro; Geraldo Caixeta Guimarães; Antonio Manoel Batista da Silva; Márcio Augusto Tamashiro; Fernando Bento Silva

This study aims to analyze the performance under distribution networks, technically comparing the so called conventional distribution network (with bare cables) with those called compact distribution network (with covered cables). In old distribution lines bare cables has been used due the fact that its installation cost is cheaper than the covered ones. But nowadays almost of the distribution companies started to study the feasibility of the installation of compact distribution lines because of its benefits regarding maintenance and reduction of outages. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the technical losses of distribution compact networks when compared to the conventional distribution networks. For this purpose, electrical conductors have been modelled using ATP software and an algorithm for three-phase power flow calculation has been performed by the Newton - Raphson method, developed in MATLAB software. Three different topologies of distribution networks have been tested. Finally, with the simulation results it is concluded that the topology with the compact distribution networks configuration obtained a better performance among others.

Experimental analysis of a self-excited induction generators operating in parallel with synchronous generators applied to isolated load generation

Wagner Eduardo Vanco; Fernando Bento Silva; Felipe A. da Silva Gonçalves; Eudinei de Oliveira Silva; Carlos Augusto Bissochi Junior; Luciano Martins Neto

This article presents the application of self-excited induction generation operating together with synchronous generators for the supply of isolated systems. The experimental studies validate the benefits of using self-excited induction generators for power generation, decrease in project costs, which allows the subject matter under investigation to be implemented in practical applications.
