Universal access to the Internet among young people has been accompanied by new opportunities associated with online developments and practices, but the problematic use of the digital environment also involves threats. In the current scientific literature, there is no clear consensus on the definition of the behaviors that could arise from inappropriate use of the Web, which, as an attempt, is defined with the term addiction. This article combines a qualitative-quantitative approach, based on a competitive national research project, aiming to identify the main threats posed by digital immersion of Spanish youth between 12 and 17 years old. On the one hand, results obtained from this research confirm the discomfort experienced by young people when they have to be offline during a certain period of time, especially in those intensive users of social networks. On the other hand, it has been shown how damaged or conflicting family relationships lead individuals from 15 years old to spend more time connected to the Internet in an attempt to supplement or protest against their family interactions. This study confirms several trends already mentioned in the specialized literature, and presents new findings that suggest possible future lines of investigation on early detection of cyberpathologies.Universal access to the Internet among young people has been accompanied by new opportunities associated with online developments and practices, but the problematic use of the digital environment also involves threats. This study was conducted in an environment of widespread use of social media and mobile applications in the mass media. The general goal of the study was to analyze the use of WhatsApp in cybermedia, specifically in radio. A case study was proposed to examine the use of WhatsApp on the program Las mañanas de RNE, broadcast by Spanish National Radio. It was found that the public was very accepting of the program’s initiative to solicit WhatsApp voice messages, beginning in November 2015. The case study used audio files of a direct broadcast that included specific times for audience participation. The use of WhatsApp was accepted by the audience, in addition to the use of the conventional telephone, as a tool well-suited to listener participation in radio programming. Finally, the study highlights the importance of interactive, participatory spaces in broadcasts through the creation of synergies with new forms of online participation.

The development of interactive digital tools has prompted a raft of changes in the traditional model of communication, replacing vertical and unidirectional discourse for a shared content construction on the Internet. Nowadays, networks and social media related to the web 2.0 promote closeness between all parties involved in the communication process. Local administrations are also affected by the new interactive channels, having to adapt themselves to the demands of citizen-users. The present research mainly aims to compare, using an approximate analysis, the use of Twitter by the City Halls of two emblematic cities: Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Madrid (Spain). A web content analysis on a sample of tweets posted on the official Twitter account of the two City Halls has been conducted. The study reveals an under-use of communication and interactive resources at this microblogging platform, with accounts transformed in mere shop windows especially destined to generate traffic to the websites in each municipality.

The Web 2.0 communication model has provided new institutional, corporate, and personal showcases based on the interactivity that derived from the social character of the digital tools. In a changing environment, it becomes necessary to review the strategies and tactics applied to self-promotion in order to adapt them according to the possibilities offered by interactive channels. This study aims to analyze the main strategies of communication and personal marketing used by Spanish writers on Twitter. The methodology includes a quantitative systematic analysis of the profiles of a sample of renowned authors in order to identify the main tactics used by them on the aforementioned social network. The results show that the analyzed group wants to ensure their presence on the social web, adding to their routine the practice of microblogging. In this dynamic, we can notice the construction of a closer and more transparent image and personal brand than traditional channels usually offer, focusing on the personal interests of the writers. We also observe a self-promotion walking toward the horizontality although it still presents traces of the verticality of the communication traditionally imposed and unidirectional.
