Kaposi's Sarcoma (Angioreticulomatosis)

Francesco Ronchese; Arthur B. Kern

Kaposis sarcoma is a disease which, while not uncommon, is frequently not recognized. An attempt has been made to present the various features of this condition which are of value in establishing its diagnosis. Sixteen cases which have been under our observation are reviewed.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans: Review of the literature and report of four cases

Bencel L. Schiff; Murray J. Tye; Arthur B. Kern; Giuseppe Moretti; Francesco Ronchese

Abstract The literature on dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is reviewed. The origin of the tumor is still in doubt, some maintaining that it arises in mammary tissue, some stating that it is of neurogenic origin and others attributing an important role to trauma. Considerable controversy exists in regard to the histopathology of the lesion. It appears to us, as well as to many others, that the important feature is the non-specificity of the histological picture. As in the case of Kaposis sarcoma, the clinical rather than the histopathological aspects are most important for diagnosis. The tumor is locally malignant, recurring after incomplete removal. Despite the fact that there have been reports of fatal metastases, in almost all these cases autopsy proof has been lacking. Four cases of DFSP are reported which showed the characteristic clinical features along with the non-specific histopathology previously described.

Dermatologia e Venereologia, volumes I and II

Francesco Ronchese

The two volumes are part of a series. So far published are volumes on physiology, microscopic anatomy, pathology, pediatrics, otolaryngology, and internal medicine. The senior author is the head of the dermatologic clinic of the University of Rome, the junior is the head of the centuries old Ospedale San Gallicano of Rome. The black and white and color illustrations, incorporated in the text, are very good. Most interesting are the hair diagrams of Joe Moretti, the microradiographic picture of Tosti, the electron microscope ones of Puccinelli, the ones on nerve ending of Ormea. I did not expect to see such a good picture of Queyrat of the vulva in black and white, but I expected a poor one of erysipeloid. The scarcity of references is only apparent. In the text there are 24 footnote-references going from burns to photerdermatoses, biopathology, alopecia areata, industrial dermatoses, psychosomatic dermatoses, pemphigus, psoriasis, acne, nevi,

Diseases of the Skin

Francesco Ronchese

This is the second translation into Italian of an American textbook of dermatology, since Duhring in 1877. It appears in two volumes comprising 1,291 pages and 700 illustrations. Manganotti chose to be a coauthor and to use his own illustrations. His personal views and those of Italian investigators are expressed on several topics. These are marked with an asterisk and the page ends with Manganottis initials. However, not all additions are so marked. Manganotti is a brilliant psychodermatologist and his remarks are highly instructive. With the present day teaching trend to let dust accumulate on our x-ray machines it is refreshing to read that Manganotti stresses the efficacy of roentgen therapy in pruriginous conditions. American dermatologists will find instructive the pages on epidermolysis bullosa albo-papuloide of Pasini; the comments on photodermatoses, prurigo, parapsoriasis, granuloma trichophyticum Majocchi, cutaneous leishmaniasis, Crosti-Gianottis disease, bullous pemphigoid, the Lyell syndrome, mucous membrane manifestations of lupus
