Making a teaching material repository accessible. An experience on an open source platform

At the Computer Science School, in the National University of La Plata, they are being used a set of platforms that allow all systematize processes involved in academic administration and the underlying administrative tasks. In the LINTI, New Information Technologies Research Laboratory, it is being developed a project that involves the integration of the repository, implemented using DSpace, with different tools and platforms. Taking the original DSpace software as a basis, modifications were implemented that allowed its communication with Moodle LMS, the library management system called Meran, file management services like DropBox and GoogleDrive and the social network Facebook. Accessibility is a process that cuts across all software development stages, so the use of a free software product requires validation features and then to correct possible faults if it s necessary. This article describes the repository accessibility validation, considering the proper basic functions and the implemented extensions, the validation results and the changes that are necessary to carry out to ensure Web service accessibility.

Experiencias en el dictado de cursos sobre accesibilidad web en modalidad virtual

Este articulo relata la experiencia educativa sobre un proceso de ensenanza continuo y sostenido sobre Accesibilidad Web, mediante la realizacion de cursos a distancia abiertos a toda la comunidad. Estos cursos en sus diferentes versiones se vienen organizando desde la Facultad de Informatica de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP) desde el ano 2011. Se explicaran detalles, objetivos, aspectos metodologicos, resultados de esta experiencia de formacion, que ha involucrado a mas de 300 alumnos provenientes de distintos puntos de la Argentina como del mundo.

UNLP Aumentada: Desafíos y retos

In this article, it is described the experience in the development of mobile Augmented Reality (AR) applications written in JAVA with the open source framework Look!AR. This work is the result of an articulation between a research project on a mobile application testbed and a course of the School of Computing, National University of La Plata (UNLP) in which the students obtain new skills in the development of software, taking under consideration issues such as the user-oriented-design, the mobility and the integration. Being that the utilization and development of innovative technologies are suitable elements to take into account in computer science degrees; modern technologies must be incorporated to portray the fundamental concepts and, in this way, to familiarize students with their future as a professional, as it is of great interest the students of computer science. It represents a challenge when it comes to develop software for platforms with peculiarities such as screen and hardware restrictions, and with new advantageous features like sensors of movement and temperature, GPS, and camera, for instance.
