Political Islam in Turkey: From the Periphery to the State and Society Control

The success of political Islam in Turkey in the last 14 years has reshaped social and political life and power relations in the institutions of the Turkish state. The electoral triumph of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in November 2002 began a process of change that has led to the emergence of a new kind of country, while the putsch of July 2016 represents a new phase. The political and social changes that Turkey has gone through during this period are, however, not without precedent in the difficult history of the Turkish Republic. This book aims to analyse the most important elements of political Islam in Turkey and its successful understanding of power consolidation.
