The microbiological production of gibberellins A and X.

Abstract A method is described for the production of crude crystalline gibberellin in yields of about 12 g. per 160 gal. of culture liquor. This product is a mixture of the known gibberellin A ([α]D +36 °) and a new gibberellin (C19H22O6) with a rotation of [α]D +92 °.

Summary The crude mixture of gibberellins produced in the pilot plant by the fungus Fusarium moniliforme ( Gibberella fujikuroi )NRRL 2284 was shown to be separable, by means of buffer partition chromatography, into a gibberellin ([ α ] D + 36°) of composition C 19 H 24 O 6 , and gibberellic acid (C 19 H 22 O 6 ).

Use of dicyclohexylethylamine in the microscale preparation of phenacyl derivatives of carboxylic acids

Abstract A simple method of preparing phenacyl derivatives is described. It is based on the use of the sterically hindered base dicyclohexylethylamine as the proton acceptor. The advantages of the method are short reaction time, mild conditions, high yields, avoidance of ester hydrolysis, and ease of micromanipulation.
