Abstract A new route for large scale preparation of the l(4H)-naphthalenone 4 from perillaldehyde 10 was developed. Condensation of 4 with the methoxyphthalidesulfone 3 gave the ll-deoxydaunomycinone precursor 5a which was used as an intermediate to daunomycinone (2a).

A general route for total synthesis of 9-alkyl-9-hydroxy aklavinones and pyrromycinones

Abstract -A general route for convergent, regiospecific synthesis of 9-alkyl-9-hydroxy anthracyclinones with the aklavin and pyrromycin oxygenation patterns is described.
