Abstract The deposition of Ti following the implantation of porous-rooted Ti dental implants was studied in the mandibles of 3 adult Rhesus monkeys. The implants were in place for 52–76 months. The effects of deposition of Ti were studied in a variety of major organ systems. Atomic absorption spectrophotometry revealed the presence of minute concentrations of Ti in only the lungs of both control (unimplanted) and experimental (implanted) animals.

1. An inert porous vehicle can be successfully used to attach endosseous dental implants to surrounding alveolar bone. 2. Implant size and the width of keratinized gingiva surrounding the implant are critical to the success of the implant. 3. Radiography and pocket depth are useful indicators of the status of porous endosseous roots, while mobility is not.
