Measurements of temporal and spatial distributions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, toluene, and aerosols have been made with two lidars in the industrial region of Cubatao, Brazl. Immissions, emissions and transport phenomena were investigated. The data provide a comprehensive picture of the actual situation and appear useful for future planning of new facilities in the area.

Sum frequency mixing of two solid state lasers was used to set up a DIAL system for stratospheric ozone measurements. By frequency mixing of a Ti:sapphire laser (720–960 nm) with the Nd:YAG second harmonic (532 nm), the wavelengths between 306 and 342 nm can be reached. The mixing efficiency of LBO, KDP and KD*P crystals was compared at different laser beam configurations. Tunable lidar measurements in the UV-B wavelength region and stratospheric ozone measurements were performed. The output pulse energy of 20 mJ reached here is sufficient to perform daylight measurements in the UV-B region.
