Low-grade coals, such as subbituminous coal, are generally high in inherent moisture and even if they have been dehumidified they absorb moisture again and dried coals have property of high spontaneous ignition. They,therefore, are not suitable for long distance transportation. Because of this, they have been mostly used for power generation in their native districts. To cope with the recent energy situation there is a growing demand to use these coals as new energy resources by improving their quality.
