Anaglyph Stereo Visualization by the Use of a Single Image and Depth Information

Fuminori Matsuura; Nobuyuki Fujisawa

In this paper, an anaglyph stereo visualization is studied by the use of a single image and depth information. The present technique allows the stereo visualization of the target image without binocular camera, which has been used for generating the standard anaglyphs. Three test cases are shown in this work, which covers the generation of monochrome anaglyph from given geometrical information, and that of monochrome and color anaglyph from depth information evaluated from other imaging devises, which are placed in parallel. The experimental depth information of the target image is evaluated from the correlation-based template matching analysis of the random dot patterns optically projected on the target objects. Examples of anaglyph stereo visualization are shown for scientific art, such as the monochrome cube, monochrome plaster figure and the color artificial flowers. These results indicate that the present technique of anaglyph stereo visualization through the depth information is very useful and widely applicable to the general three-dimensional visualization.

A new experimental technique for generating anaglyph stereo images for sculpture arts

Fuminori Matsuura; Nobuyuki Fujisawa

In this paper, a new experimental technique for generating anaglyph stereo images for three-dimensional visualization of sculpture arts is proposed. The images are taken at fixed distance using the imaging system consisting of single CCD camera and turntable. This system allows generation of stereo images at variable distances from the target object. The feasibility study of this technique is demonstrated by showing some anaglyph stereo images of a sculpture art.Graphical Abstract

Flow of rhythmical movement in a snapshot of anaglyph stereo image

In rhythmical gymnastics, movement should flow from the center of the body to peripheral parts of the body. VTR, DVD and photographs are used to teach the movements. The purpose of this study is to compare the impressions of anaglyph stereo images and 2D images using a questionnaire. The stretching and stability of a hard to understand movement was better perceived via anaglyph stereo image. For simple movements, anaglyph stereo images revealed dynamics more effectively than 2D images, but were less effective at revealing relaxing. This suggests that anaglyph stereo images are effective tools for analyzing movement in rhythmical gymnastics.
