Analysis for dispersion characteristics of trapezoidal-groove waveguide

Fuyong Xu; Keyu Zhao; Mai Lu

In this paper, the dispersion characteristics of the main mode for the trapezoidal-groove guides are analysed by using the approach of equivalent network with transverse resonance. The relationship curves between guide wavelength, phase constant and guide dimensions, frequency are obtained. The characteristics have important values in design, manufacture and application of groove guides.

A New Fourier's Expansion-Differential Method for Analyzing Groove Guide with Arbitrary Shape

Fuyong Xu; Binzhao Cao

A new Fouriers expansion-differential method for analyzing groove guide with arbitrary shape is firstly presented in this paper. It is convenient to solve practical application problems of arbitrary groove guides. The calculated results of the guide wavelengths of typical groove guides are in good agreement with ones in references, and its computing precision is fairly high. Hence the computational correctness of the new method is verified. The new method has the advantages of clear conception, direct-viewing expression, simple and easily feasible computation, etc. So it is of important application values for enriching groove guide theory and is solving actual engineering application problems for millimeter waves.

Finite Element Analysis of the Dominant Mode Variation in Groove Guide

Mai Lu; Zhide Hu; Zhangyou Peng; Xiaoqiang Chen; Fuyong Xu; Keyu Zhao; M. Matsumoto; Fulin Wei; Zheng Yang

In this paper, the dominant mode in groove guide is analyzed by finite element method. For the guide with a shallow groove, the electric field lines (abbreviated as E lines) are perpendicular to the parallel plate, which is different from the literatures, and the dominant mode distribution is irrelevant to the groove width; for the guide with a narrow but deeper groove, the E lines are parallel to the plate region, which represents the characteristics of lower attenuation, for the guide with a deeper and wider groove, a complicated E lines are obtained. These results reveal that the dominant mode distribution in groove guide is varied, which replenish our understanding of groove guide, and the results have important values in design, manufacture, and application of groove guide.

Analysis for Transmission Characteristics of Closed Trapezoidal-Groove Waveguide with Boundary Element Method

Fuyong Xu; Xiaohui Lin; Bin You

In this paper, the cut-off and dispersion characteristics of a new kind of closed trapezoidal-groove waveguide that has more advantages than open groove waveguides are analyzed with the help of the boundary element method, the relationship between cut-off wavelengths and variations of guides relative sizes is discussed in detail. The calculated results are in good agreement with those in the relevant reference. So, the obtained conclusions are very important in theoretical studies and actual applications of closed trapezoidal-groove waveguides for millimeter and submillimeter waves.

Network analyses for transmission characteristics of several kinds of curve-shaped groove waveguides

Fuyong Xu; Keyu Zhao; Ling Zhao

In this paper, the several kinds of the novel curve-shaped groove guides including the whole elliptic-, whole cosine- and hyperbolic-groove guides as the new millimeter wave transmission lines are presented. The dispersion, cut-off and band characteristics of the dominant mode for the several kinds of the curve-shaped groove guides are analysed by using the equivalent network method with transverse resonance. The obtained results have important values in their theoretical studies and actual applications of the curve-shaped groove waveguides.

Transmission Modes of Closed Elliptic-Groove Waveguides for Millimeter Waves

Fuyong Xu; Jiao Li; Keyu Zhao

In this paper, a new type of horizontal-flat and vertical-flat closed elliptic-groove guides is firstly presented. The field components and characteristic equations for some main transmission modes of the closed elliptic-groove guides are derived by with the help of the mode-matching method and Mathieu function. The variations of the cut-off wavelengths along with eccentricities, widths and lengths of the parallel plates for a number of lower order transmission modes of the closed elliptic-groove guides are also analysed in detail. The calculated results in good agreement with ones in the relevant references are of very important values in theoretical researches and actual applications of closed elliptic-groove guides for millimeter and submillimeter waves.

Analysis for dispersion characteristics of elliptic- and parabolic-groove waveguides

Keyu Zhao; Fuyong Xu; Mai Lu

In this paper, the dispersion characteristics of elliptic-and parabolic-groove guides are analysed by using the equivalent network method with rectangular step approximation. The results have important values in the studying of the transmission characteristics of curvilineal-groove guides as well as its manufacture and application.

Theoretical analysis for dispersion characteristics of elliptic-groove waveguide with mode-matching method

Fuyong Xu; Keyu Zhao; Qiang Wang

In this paper, two kinds of elliptic-groove waveguides are presented. One of them has never been studied before. With the help of Mathieu function and mode-matching method, the field components and characteristic equation of the elliptic-groove waveguides are obtained for the first time. Then their dispersion characteristics for the dominant mode i.e. the mode TEe111 are also studied. The gotten conclusions have very important values in theoretical study and actual application for the two kinds of the elliptic-groove waveguides.
