A Novel Image Retrieval Approach for Semantic Web

G. Nagarajan; K. K. Thyagharajan

In this world of information technology revolution we human wants a way of automation in every field, but the intelligent technique behind the way how we visualize an image is not equivalent to how an computer system visualize .In web for a system the image is simply a resource with some specific hyper-link path. In this paper we propose an idea of giving semantic to a web image page so a system can understand the semantic behind the image which automatically increases the efficiency of image search. So we represent a way of converting an ordinary Syntactic page into a Semantic web page with corresponding Ontology which would pave the way of advancement in Semantic Web Learning technology. General Terms Image Retrieval and Semantic Web et. al.

Semantically Effective Visual Concept Illustration for Images

K. K. Thyagharajan; G. Nagarajan

The field of analyzing and understanding high-dimension real world data in a knowledgeable form is known as computer vision. Image is such a high dimension real world data which is enormously available in meaningless way. Using Ontologies in this computer vision field will enable a high end Ontology knowledge based image analysis and understanding. The main objective of this paper is to develop a frame work that creates a Bag of Visual Words for sports events using low level features of images and to develop ontology to provide semantic meaning to the images. Such semantically available images can be easily retrieved using a semantic image retrieval system. We used the concepts of enhanced Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) for feature extraction and Support Vector Machine based classification model to provide semantic to the images for action classification of images

An implementation of SSSC-based cascade H-bridge model series compensation scheme

G. Nagarajan; K. Thanigaivel

The SSSC is used to operate the transmission line at stable condition. Various schemes of SSSC is already proposed. And a still lot of scope is left in this development to make it more efficient in terms of voltage stress, switching losses and harmonic suppression. The scheme proposed here is used to produce a H - bridge based cascaded inverter. It can produce the pulses with different width and magnitude. It almost resembles a sine wave at the output of transformer. The output results are compared with conventional type SSSC with cascaded type. This paper solved only the simulation part of this work. In the proposed work a scale down model of the SSSC can be proposed to build. This scale down model can be used to analysis the different situations like voltage compensation part. The sample of voltage and current will be taken from the transmission line and is given to the processor to decide the angle of firing for the thyristor device. A cascaded type H - bridge based multilevel inverter is used as SSSC. Three DC separate DC sources are used here as energy source for the SSSC. These three DC source can be interfaced with SSSC in a sequential manner as explained in different modes. This sequential switching is helpful in reducing switching losses and switching stresses.

Linguistic Conversion of Syntactic to Semantic Web Page

G. Nagarajan; K. K. Thyagarajan

Information is knowledge. In earlier days one has to find a resource person or resource library to acquire knowledge. But today just by typing a keyword on a search engine all kind of resources are available to us. Due to this mere advancement there are trillions of information available on net. So, in this era we are in need of search engine which also search with us by understanding the semantics of given query by the user. One such design is only possible only if we provide semantic to our ordinary HTML web page. In this paper we have explained the concept of converting an HTML page to RDFS/OWL page. This technique is incorporated along with natural language technology as we have to provide the Hyponym and Meronym of the given HTML pages.

Wireless Soil Monitoring Sensor for Sprinkler Irrigation Automation System

G. Nagarajan; R. I. Minu

In a developing country like India, there is an exponential rise in population nutrition requirement. To meet up with both the ends, the agricultural techniques should be perfected for optimal yield and quality. Irrigation and soil property monitoring system using sensors can be automated and operated wirelessly to achieve optimal water supply control and surveillance. The objective of this paper, is to automate the whole wireless sensor network (WSN) system with a control over water pumps and dripper valves. The humidity, temperature and pH sensor’s percepts provide a feedback, to control the water content of the soil. The system has an low-cost and energy reliable ZigBee for sensor data transformation, high-range GPRS system for data storing and analysis, and the whole system is powered by Solar panels which makes it self-sustainable. Customizable options for different crop with different requirements make it a versatile WSN system for automated irrigation based water management.

S. D. Sundarsingh Jebaseelan; C. N. Ravi; G. Nagarajan; S. Marlin

This paper presents the improvement of reactive power and voltage in fourteen bus system using TCTC and STATCOM. Flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) are the option to mitigate the problem of overloaded lines due to increased electric power transmission by controlling power flows. In this work, combined controller based on optimal power flow (OPF) with multiple objectives is derived in order to provide secure transmission and reduces transmission losses. Static compensator and thyristor-controlled tap changer are two such compensators belonging to FACTS devices are used in this work. The fourteen bus system with closed-loop-controlled STATCOM and TCTC is modeled and simulated.

Fuzzy-Based Multiloop Interleaved PFC Converter with High-Voltage Conversion System

P. Elangomenan; G. Nagarajan

This paper presents the implementation of an interleaved boost converter controlled by fuzzy logic control, combined with conventional multiloop control and interleaved pulse-width modulation. The conventional method has the drawback of increased current and voltage ripple. The generated modified proposed system will reduce the voltage and current ripple and improve PFC correction. The average behavior of the interleaved three-level switch-mode rectifier (SMR) is similar to the voltage stress and can be reduced using ZVS and ZCS soft switching method. The proposed method is simulated using MATLAB software with embedded controller in the hardware; both the results are verified by this system.

FSM-Based VLSI Architecture for the 3 × 3 Window-Based DBUTMPF Algorithm

K.Vasanth; V. Elanangai; S. Saravanan; G. Nagarajan

This paper gives a Novel FSM-based architecture for the decision-based unsymmetrical trimmed midpoint algorithm used for high-density salt and pepper noise (SPN) removal in images. The proposed VLSI architecture uses a FSM-based scheduler for the evaluation of unsymmetrical trimmed midpoint in a fixed 3 × 3 window. The proposed scheduler moves between 4 states of the finite state machine for the evaluation of a suitable value to replace the corrupted value in the decision-based algorithm. The proposed architecture consists of sorting network, FSM scheduler and decision unit, which uses 9 values of the current processing window. This setup acts as a sequential architecture. During the simulation the first output of the decision appears after 16 clock cycles. The proposed architecture was targeted for Xc3e5000-5fg900 FPGA and the proposed architecture occupies 857 slices, consumes 298 MW power, and operates at 98.38 MHz frequency.

Multimodal Fuzzy Ontology Creation and Knowledge Information Retrieval

G. Nagarajan; R. I. Minu

The main objective of this paper is to design an information retrieval system for both text and image data using the concept of ontology. The focus of this paper is to improve information retrieval for sports events using Ontologies. For this purpose, an integration of domain knowledge with images using fuzzy ontology technique was implemented. In this work, the domain of basketball event is considered for creating low-level visual ontology for certain sport event images. The created multimodal ontology definition will provide a wide domain applicability, which allows the user to construct an ontology for any sport event. The domain ontologies are compared with the non-ontological information retrieval system to show the effectiveness of the ontological system.

Dual Converter Multimotor Drive for Hybrid Permanent Magnet Synchronous in Hybrid Electric Vehicle

G. Nagarajan; C. N. Ravi; K. Vasanth; D. Godwin Immanuel; S. D. Sundarsingh Jebaseelan

Electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) are operated by battery power, which has to be optimized. HEV is the combination of an electric machine and an internal combustion engine (ICE) which is a promising means of reducing emissions and fuel consumption without compromising vehicle functionality and driving performance. The hybrid electric vehicle can be classified according to the way in which power is supplied to drive the train as parallel hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), series hybrid electric vehicle (SHEV), dual-mode hybrid electric vehicle (DMHEV). In this proposed work, dual-mode hybrid electric vehicle (DMHEV) is used. One of the motors in the drive is a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). This PMSM serves two operations: As a parallel motor with an existing motor and the winding of PMSM acts as a boost inductor. A dual converter is proposed which acts as a DC-to-AC converter when PMSM is working as a motor. The same converter acts as a boost converter which uses the PMSM inductance in the boost mode. In this work, a total automobile HEV system is simulated using MATLAB. This system has an electrical subsystem which contains a generator, a battery and motors. The dual converter and PMSM are included in the electrical subsystem to improve the performance of the automobile system.
