Wind-induced airflow through permeable materials, Part I: the motion equation

An approach to describe the air infiltration in enclosed spaces is proposed. The approach is obtained by developing the momentum equation in terms of the method of volume averaging. The physical meaning of each equation term is presented and the range of validity and applicability are analysed.

Wind-induced airflow through permeable materials, Part II: Air infiltration in enclosures

A new method using the equations of mass conservation and motion, and the state equation of gases, is proposed to characterise air infiltrations induced by fluctuating pressures. The method is applied to an enclosure containing a porous material (ventilation filters or screens) and apertures. Experimental data obtained for the purpose of testing the validity of the method are found to agree well with the predicted values.

A simulation study of energy saving prospectives of combined heat and power in horticulture in the Netherlands

Abstract This paper studies the prospectives of the application of reject heat from on-site combined heat and power generation as a function of a number of horticultural characteristics. Especially the consequences of CO2-dosing with exhaust gases is studied. All computations are made with a recently developed dynamic simulation model describing the energy consumption of a greenhouse and the performance of its heating system as a function of outside weather conditions and horticultural requests of growers in the Netherlands.
