SummaryThe incidence of various bacteria isolated from the throat of normal newborns, and children with infections of the upper respiratory, urinary and gastrointestinal tracts is reported. The antibiotic sensitivity pattern of these bacteria to five commonly used drugs is presented and the relative efficacy of the drugs discussed. The emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains is pointed out and a more judicious and limited use of such drugs is advocated.
