Featured researches published by G. Roche-Nagle.

Irish Journal of Medical Science | 2002

Cyclo-oxygenase 2 inhibition potentiates anti-tumour effects of chemo/radiotherapy

G. Roche-Nagle; Judith H. Harmey; Anne-Marie Byrne; D. Bouchier-Hayes

ConclusionsSelective COX-2 inhibitors enhance the effects of chemo/radiotherapy and may overcome therapy-induced tumour cell resistance.

Irish Journal of Medical Science | 2002

Diabetic nephropathy is ameliorated with HMG-co-enzyme A reductase treatment

R. G. Casey; M. Joyce; G. Roche-Nagle; M. J. O’Sullivan; Desmond C. Winter; C.J. Kelly; D. Bouchier-Hayes

ConclusionsPravastatin attenuates changes in serum creatinine, renal haemodynamics (renal flux and glomerular filtration rate [GFR]) and architectural distortion. It had no systemic effects on weight loss or serum lipid levels suggesting that reno-protection occurs locally and independent of lipid lowering.

Irish Journal of Medical Science | 2002

Cyclooxygenase inhibitors reduce spontaneous metastases and serum vascular endothelial growth factor in an experimental model of breast carcinoma excision

G. Roche-Nagle; Judith H. Harmey; E. M. Connolly; M. Eng; D. Bouchier-Hayes

ConclusionThis data demonstrates that selective COX-2 inhibition significantly reduces the number of spontaneous metastases in an experimental excision model of breast cancer. The authors have also shown that this may occur secondary to a reduction in the potent angiogenic factor VEGF.

Irish Journal of Medical Science | 2002

Platelet and endothelial abnormalities that contribute to atherogenesis are early alterations in young male smokers

R. G. Casey; G. Roche-Nagle; M. Joyce; Fiona M. Fennessy; C.J. Kelly; Dermot Cox; D. Bouchier-Hayes

ConclusionThe above data demonstrate that the endothelial dysfunction (FMD) previously demonstrated correlates with endothelial injury (vWF) and platelet abnormalities. These are early and possibly synergistic alterations in young smokers that contribute to the development of atherogenesis.

Irish Journal of Medical Science | 2002

Cyclo-oxygenase inhibition attenuates endotoxin-induced primary tumour growth and metastasis

G. Roche-Nagle; Judith H. Harmey; R. G. Casey; John G. Kelly; D. Bouchier-Hayes

ConclusionCOX-2 inhibitors may be of benefit in patients at risk of metastatic disease, particularly if they are also at risk of endotoxaemia.

Journal of Surgical Research | 2005

Pravastatin modulates early diabetic nephropathy in an experimental model of diabetic renal disease.

R. G. Casey; M. Joyce; G. Roche-Nagle; Gang Chen; D. Bouchier-Hayes

Journal of Surgical Research | 2003

Selective Cox-2 inhibition attenuates the perioperative increase of the tumour enhancing pro-angiogenic cytokine Vegf in human breast cancer patients

G.T. O’Donoghue; G. Roche-Nagle; E. M. Connolly; Judith H. Harmey; D. Bouchier-Hayes

Irish Journal of Medical Science | 2007

Risk-based evaluation of thromboprophylaxis among surgical inpatients: are low risk patients treated unnecessarily?

G. Roche-Nagle; J. Curran; D. Bouchier-Hayes; S. Tierney

Irish Journal of Medical Science | 2007

Preoperative selection of symptomatic breast cancer patients appropriate for lymphatic mapping and sentinel node biopsy.

M.C. Barry; R. A. Cahill; G. Roche-Nagle; R. Landers; David J Walsh; D. Bouchier-Hayes; R. G. K. Watson

Journal of Surgical Research | 2003

Taurine supplementation reverses endothelial cell dysfunction and promotes mobilisation of endothelial progenitor cells

M.A. Moloney; J.J. Kelly; Claire Condron; G. Roche-Nagle; D.H. O’Donnell; F.M. Fennessy; D. Bouchier-Hayes
