Abstract The 1 A 1 g → 1 T 1 u transition of thallium center in KBr has been investigated using the technique of circular dichroism. The agreement between the experimental and theoretical spectra is excellent and seems to support the mechanism of the Jahn-Teller effect.

Abstract The absorption spectrum of whole blood over a wide energy range has been determined at room temperature by the high-resolution derivative technique to properly locate the unresolvable-band energy position.

Abstract A marked oscillator-strength decrease of the A band in KBr: Tl has been pointed out by means of thermally-modulated optical measurements throughout the temperature range 88–380°K. The experimental results suggest the existence of a clear correlation between the states responsible of the absorption bands and are discussed in order to clarify the role of the thermal perturbation upon Tl + energy levels.

Abstract The temperature induced variation of the B-band integrated absorption intensity has been determined at room temperature by a modulation technique and reported for KBr:Tl.

A new smoothing computer program is presented which may be of great interest for a large number of scientific fields. Due to its versality it was tested on Mössbauer and astrophysical data but it can always be used if scattered data in the measurements are present.

Abstract Photoreflectance spectrum of Gallium Telluride in the exciton absorption region is presented and interpreted invoking a light-induced modulation of the exciton Rydberg. An alternative explanation assuming electroreflectance- like effect due to surface field modulation seems to be not adequate to justify the measured line-shape.

We report on the optical rotatory power of TI+ ions randomly embedded in an alkali halide lattice when in an external magnetic field. The theoretical analysis allows us to examine closely the nature of interactions between energy levels through the magnetic field hamiltonian. The experimental curves, analyzed in order to estimate the square modules of the electric dipole moment matrix elements, are shown to support the theory proposed by Shen.
