Several years ago we noticed that something had happen with our students. Times have changed, so have the students, the tools, and the requisite skills and knowledge. How can Higher Education provide these evolving students with a relevant education? To answer this question, we have to understand a whole generation, grown up with digital technologies. In this paper we provide a summary of research, related to Net-Generation Learning Style, results of a pilot survey of kids, born in 1995 and some strategies to educate the Net-Generation students who are coming to the University.

In the paper virtual drill tools measuring algorithm applied on 3D objects has been described and its programming model, developed for training purposes, has been presented. The work with the model will enable students to measure virtual 3D drill tools and it will be also used to check and assess their knowledge.

The preparation of a doctoral student and a successful thesis is considered an achievement – not only for the doctoral student and their scientific supervisor, but also for the institution that has taken responsibility in developing a young scientist. Doctoral student education is a complex activity, which includes administrative services, discursive social practice, document turnover, etc. The creation of a software system aimed at tracking the development of the doctoral students themselves and their scientific interests is one of a series of initiatives that the University of Ruse has taken to optimize the organization activity related to Ph.D. student education. The base theoretical concepts forming the foundation in the build process of a software system are outlined in this article, as well as their successful practical implementation into a well-functioning software resource. An analysis of the results of a poll intending to survey the opinions of the users in their work and experience with the system is also included.

The report contains a description of augmented reality technology application in the education and training of mechanical engineers. Software for augmented reality marker tracking for mechanical engineering education is created and described. An approach for design a textbook with 3D models of cutting tools, measuring tools and special equipment, visualised using augmented reality is presented.

The paper presents a highly interactive 3D learning tool for measuring the constructive and geometrical parameters of the turning tools. The created software tool could be used for e-learning in different engineering student courses, where turning tools characteristics are examined. The paper also presents a learning scenario for virtual learning and measuring of the turning tools.

A short analysis of well-known types of virtual learning environments today is presented in the paper. Some examples of world practice are adduced. Four main approaches to implementation of such environments are given. A conception for implementation of uniform virtual learning environment is proposed. As a conclusion the creation of Bulgarian Virtual University as a part of the third stage in national project for implementation of virtual learning environments is announced.
