Towards detecting redundancy in domain engineering process using first order logic rules

Abdelrahman Osman Elfaki; Sim Liew Fong; Kevin Loo Teow Aik; Gapar Md Johar

Software product line SPL is an emerging methodology for developing software products. SPL consists of two processes: domain-engineering and application-engineering. Successful software product is highly dependent on the validity of a domain engineering process. Therefore, validation is a significant process within the domain-engineering. Anomalies such as dead feature, redundancy, and wrong-cardinality are well-known problems in SPL. In the literature, redundancy did not take the signs of attentions as a dead feature and wrong-cardinality. The maturity of the SPL can be enhanced by detecting and removing the redundancy from the domain engineering. This paper proposes first order logic FOL rules for detecting the redundancy in domain-engineering process. Detecting redundancy in the domain engineering direct is our contribution. Our methodology comprised of three steps: 1 variability is modelled in the form of predicates as a prerequisite; 2 for each type of the redundancy, a general form is formulated to swathe all possible cases; 3 FOL rules are illustrated to implement each possibility based on deducing the results from predefined cases. As a result, all forms of redundancies in the domain-engineering process are amorphous. Finally, experiments are conducted to attest the scalability of our method.

Essential Technical Competencies for Software Engineers: Perspectives from Sri Lankan Undergraduates

C. D. Manawadu; Gapar Md Johar; S. S. N. Perera

Software engineering complexities and challenges are multifold and does not only rise from technology advancements. Human factors related to software engineering is a key aspect which has been overlooked by many organizations and also received less research focus. The research which is a part of a longer study strives to build a competency framework targeting software engineers. Considering a future with more agility and product engineering this study is conducted through mixed mode methods taking Sri Lankan software engineering undergraduate students as a sample to determine the future outlook. The technical competencies identified would support undergraduates, academics and industry training providers with fresh insights from a research perspective. Further it will help undergraduates who intend to join the industry to sharpen their technical competencies. General Terms Software Engineering, Humans Aspects in Software Engineering, Technical Competencies.

The Influence of Perceived Confidentiality Risks and Attitude on Tanzania Government Employees’ Intention to Adopt Web 2.0 and Social Media for Work-Related Purposes

Julius Raphael Mhina; Gapar Md Johar; Mohammed Hazim Alkawaz

ABSTRACT Studies show that there are many benefits of using Web 2.0 and social media in governments. However, the factors influencing government employees‘ adoption of these technologies are not well known. In this paper, the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) was integrated with two constructs, namely, perceived confidentiality risks (PCR) and attitude (AT) in order to investigate the factors influencing adoption of these technologies among government employees. The sample consisted of 600 usable responses collected from Tanzania Government Employees. To analyze the data, Structural Equation Modeling was used. Both PCR and AT were found to be influential.

Student'S activity management system using qr code and C4.5 algorithm

Hannah Farisha binti Haidi; Ruzi Bachok; Gapar Md Johar; Mohammed Hazim Alkawaz

Data mining uses sophisticated mathematical algorithms to segment the data and evaluate the probability of future events. With this process, it helps to find patterns within large data sets to predict outcomes. The process of data mining uses big data, therefore, it is very suitable to be incorporated to the system. The development of this website system is by using the Laravel framework with PHP. C4.5 Algorithm is being integrated in the system to predict the students ’achievements on the soft skills which has been outlined in the Graduate Employability Skills (GEmS) based on the activities that the students have joined during their studies in Management and Science University (MSU). By using this prediction, the students are analysed on their soft skills achievements. This system is also being developed to track the activities for each student in each semester according to the GEmS planner where students are able to manage their activities for each semester accordingly. It can also identify the students who are more prioritized to join the activities that have been created by the lecturer. Hence, the lecturers can easily control the number of students that are needed to join the activities that the lecturers created. As a validation for students ’activity registration, the QR Code is also going to be incorporated in the system.

This presentation tool is an alternative way providing documentation in Jawi scripts. Its purpose is to simplify the usage for a user as one of the choices in presentation. It is because this application is equipped with basic functions and easy to comprehend. This application is user friendly and has an attractive standard and formatting toolbars composition and easy to handle. It can be used in education environment, and congruent used in discussion, conference that hooked with Jawi scripts directly or indirectly. This application will assist user to create an apprehending slide show. It provides the easy tool incorporate text like insert texts, background and image. This application is totally different with other presentation tools because it created specifically in Jawi scripts.
