Sensitometric Characteristics of Hardened Dichromated-Gelatin Films

Gary L. Fillmore; Richard Francis Tynan

A method is described to characterize the effect of 4880-A light on a thin layer of hardened dichromated gelatin in terms of the dielectric constant of the gelatin. The light diffracted by a periodic variation of the dielectric constant of a thin layer is calculated numerically and plotted as a function of the relevant parameters of the thin layer. The change of the dielectric constant of the thin layer of gelatin after exposure to 4880-A light is obtained by comparing experimentally obtained data with the calculated data.

Drop Velocity from an Ink-Jet Nozzle

Gary L. Fillmore

An empirical equation is presented which predicts the velocity produced by a pressurized ink-jet nozzle. This equation, which has a simple exponential form, expresses the velocity in terms of two empirical constants; the fluid parameters of pressure, viscosity, and density; and the nozzle parameters of length and diameter. Velocities calculated with this equation are compared graphically to several sets of experimental data.

A Multinozzle Drop Generator Which Produces Uniform Breakup of Continuous Jets

Gary L. Fillmore; David C. Vanlokeren

An ink-jet drop generator design is presented which incorporates radial symmetry and resonant operation to produce uniform stream breakup. Design considerations are discussed for the various components. The uniform breakoff requirement for multinozzle synchronous operation is explained, and the optimum operating point is defined. The performance of the drop generator over a range of operating parameters is illustrated.
