Kemangi (Ocimum canum Sims.) is one of the most commonly grown medicinal plants in Indonesia. Both leaves and seeds of O. canum Sims. contain antioxidants, namely carotenoids, flavonoids, vitamin C and thiamin. This research aimed to analyze the effects of powder of O. canum Sims. leaves on ovary LHR expression and serum estradiol levels of premenopausal rats. This research used 12 female rats (Rattus norvegicus), aged 12 months with weights of 180-220 g. The rats were divided into four groups: Group 1 (control, not given O. canum leaf powder), Group 2 (given O. canum leaf powder at a dosage of 0.25 g/kg BW), Group 3 (given O. canum leaf powder at a dosage of 0.50 g/kg BW) and Group 4 (given O. canum leaf powder at a dosage of 1.00 g/kg BW). All of the groups were given O. canum Sims. leaf powder orally for 15 days. Serum samples were taken on the 1st, 5th, 10th and 15th days. On the 16th day, rats were dissected and ovaries harvested. Estradiol levels were measured using ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) and LHR expression of ovary was analyzed by using immunohistochemistry. Data were analyzed using ANOVA with SPSS software version 16 for Windows. The results showed that the administration of O. canum Sims. leaf powder at all of the dosages were able to increase estradiol levels and tended to improve ovary LHR expression.

Madura Island is one of island in East Java as occupied by Solen sp. Four districts in Madura islands as the producer of Solen sp. Sampang is the biggest area with the largest size. This study aims to determine the morphology and biodiversity of the Solen sp in Madura. The study was conducted at several locations in Madura during the period from May to July 2015. The main sample are Solen sp and environmental parameters (temperature, salinity, pH, and substrate) taken at four locations in Madura i.e. Bangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan, and Sumenep. The analysis shows the parameter value range is 28-30o C, salinity : 31-33 ppt, pH : 7.9-8.2, dominated by clayey-sand, and rate population is 7-10 individual/cm2. It indicated that Solen sp have supported environment parameters. Mean length of Solen sp is 2-4 inch, elongated and thin, and the lid open with one another. Intracellular digestion takes place in their digestive gland which is composed of ducts, starting in the stomach and ending in blind tubules.

The aims of this research are to study the potential source of mature (M-II) oocytes of domestic animals using follicles isolated from prepubertal and over mature aged Indonesian local goats, resulting from an in vitro growth (IVG) method. This method of IVG could provide a new source of M-II oocytes for embryo production. In Indonesia, a very limited number of a good quality oocytes are available for research purposes, as there is a limited number of reproductive females slaughtered, which is dominated by prepubertal and old mature aged animals. IVG culture systems could be improved as an alternative method to provide a new source of a good quality oocytes for in vitro maturation of M-II oocytes. From a number of prepubertal and mature aged goats slaughtered in a local abattoir, the small oocytes in the preantral follicles were cultured in vitro to normal oocyte growth. Oocyte In vitro maturation (IVM) is one of the important parts for in vitro fertilization (IVF). The success of oocyte maturation is influenced by the composit ion and the quality of IVM medium. Culture medium which used to IVM not only influences the oocyte process to reach metaphase II and proceed the fertilization, but also influences to developmental of an embryo. Crude sperm extract has high-level protein kinase and contains some sperm proteins. Crude sperm extracts expected as natural maturation medium that can increase the success of In Vitro Maturation (IVM). The characterization of crude sperm extracts profile with sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Oocyte maturation is observed in the 26 th hour from the first culture. The result of crude sperm extract characterization obtained from the protein with the molecular weight is 176.8, 63.2, 58.4, 55.3, 52.4, 49.7, 44.6, 38.02, 36.03, 34.15 and 26.8 kDa. Oocyte maturation with concentration of crude sperm extract 1.5 µg.mL -1 with 71.6% matures oocyte and oocyte maturation with concentration of crude sperm extract 2.5 µg.mL -1 with 75% matures oocyte.
