Summary1,2-Bis(3-propargyloxyphenoxy)ethane was prepared by phase transfert catalyzed etherification. This monomer exhibits a maximum of the exotherm of polymerization at 280°C. When the reaction was initiated by cupric chloride and by cupric sulfate this temperature respectively shifted to 186°C and 217°C. Conversion of the propargyl group was followed by DSC at different temperatures and increased significantly in the presence of cupric catalysts.

SummaryTwo ethynyl end-capped ethers 2,2 Bis [ethynyl-4-phenylsulfonyl-4-phenoxy-4-phenyl] propane and 2,2 Bis [ethynyl-4-phenylcarbonyl-4-phenoxy-4-phenyl] propane have been prepared by a three steps synthesis each. They exhibit melting point followed by the thermal polymerisation of the ethynyl groups in the 200–250°C range. Curing lead to thermoset materials where Tg are respectively of 240°C and not detectable.

Summary1,3-Bis(4-ethynylbenzoyl)benzene was prepared in a three steps synthesis. This compound exhibits a maximum of the exotherm of polymerization at 222°C. This temperature schifted to 198°C in presence of dicumul peroxide. The polymerization was followed by DSC analysis and was found to be faster when it was initiated by peroxide.

SummaryNew polyarylene ether ketones and polyarylene ether sulfones were prepared by polycondensation of various bisphenols with two new dihalide monomers including dibenzofuran structure, respectively 3,6 bis (4-fluorophenylcarbonyl) dibenzofuran and 3,6 bis (4-fluorophenylsulfonyl) dibenzofuran. Most of these thermoplastic polyethers are soluble in NMP and in chlorinated soluents. They exhibit Tgs up to 234°C for the polyetherketones and up to 262°C for the polysulfones, so over 50°C higher than the Tgs of classical available polyethers.
