Abstract With tetrahydrofuran or diethyl ether coordinated tris(trimethylsily)aluminium is synthesized by treatment of chlorotrimethylsilane with aluminium and lithium in tetrahydrofuran/benzene or diethyl ether in the presence of mercury. Unsolvated tris(trimethylsilyl)aluminium is available by reaction of sodium tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)aluminate with aluminium chloride in pentane. The IR, Raman, 1 H, 13 C and 27 Al NMR spectra are discussed.

Abstract Dicyclopentadienyl(trimethylsilyl)titanium chloride, a stable trimethylsilyltitanium compound, is synthesized by reaction of dicyclopentadienyltitanium dichloride and tris(trimethylsilyl)aluminium, coordinated with diethyl ether, or lithium tetarakis(trimethylsilyl)aluminate. The IR and NMR spectra are reported. The crystal structure of the title compound has been determined. It shows a distorted tetrahedral surrounding of the titanium atom; the Ti–Si distance is 267 pm.

Abstract Structure, Tris(trimethylsilyl)aluminium, Sodium-tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)aluminate The crystal and molecular structures of three trimethylsilylaluminium compounds -tris(trimethylsilyl)aluminium coordinated to a diethylether molecule (1), sodium-tetrakis-(trimethylsilyl)aluminate coordinated to two toluene molecules (2b) and unsolvated sodium-tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)aluminate (2a) -have been determined by X-ray structure analysis. In all three compounds the aluminium is tetrahedrally coordinated, the Al-Si-distances lying between 2.44 and 2.49 Å. (1) is monomeric and (2a) and (2b) form linear chains resulting from contact-ion pair interactions.

Sodium and potassium tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)aluminate are synthesized by reaction of sodium or potassium with bis(trimethylsilyl)mercury and tris(trimethylsilyl)aluminium. Sodium and potassium tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)aluminate complexes, coordinated with diethylether, tetrahydrofurane or 1,2-dimethoxyethane are available by dissolving the unsolvated compounds in the ethers. The IR, Raman, 1H and 13C NMR spectra are discussed.
