The Glomerulus in Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease and Primary Pulmonary Hypertension

Gerald S. Spear

This has been a review of the alterations that may occur in the glomerulus in cyanotic congenital heart disease and primary pulmonary hypertension, apart from the lesions associated with embolization, thrombosis and bacterial endocarditis. The pathogenesis and significance of the lesions have been discussed. Possible approaches to further study have been suggested.

Fetal gonadoblastoid testicular dysplasia

Gerald S. Spear; Cloyce G. Martin

The case of a 950-g male infant born at 28 weeks of gestation with bilateral gonadoblastoma-like testicular lesions who lived for one hour is presented. The infant had a 46, XY karyotype and multiple congenital anomalies.

The Proximal Tubule and the Podocyte in Cystinosis

Gerald S. Spear

The belief that the swan-neck lesion or the Fanconi syndrome in cystinosis are related to the accumulation of cystine in epithelium of the proximal tubule is questioned. The vulnerability of the visce

Idiopathic hematuria of childhood: Pathologic findings in the Kidney in six patients

Gerald S. Spear; Saul D. Roskes; Ruby J. Slusser; Joanne P. Alsruhe

Abstract Idiopathic hematuria is a clinical condition, by definition, of unknownetiology. Its cause probably varies and in some patients may not be renal. Important renal—including glomerular—lesions were present in the six patient presented herewith that, for the most part, appeared to be chronic and the detection of which sometimes required exhaustive examination. The lesions varied. We do not know either their cause, role, or outcome. Although many were compatible with an immune or infectious origin, infrequent positive evidence supported these possibilities. Ultrastructural glomerular lesions characteristic of Alports syndrome were not present.
