pose is twofold. First, to illustrate something of the process of securing essential biographical data on an obscure individual, materials that must be located and mined. And second, to suggest how a biographer might think about the meaning of the life-history data that are recovered. This latter aim addresses this paper to the community of educational researchers. The editor urges reading the entire, cleverly written, brief article. It will likely prove to be enlightening for a majority of readers.
