Objective: To analyze womens social representations of the smell of breast milk. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted in 2015 with 33 puerperal women in a university hospital in the state of Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil, through individual semi-structured interviews. The data collected, submitted to the IRAMUTEQ software, were interpreted in the light of the Theory of Social Representations. Results: Among the social representations, acceptance was prevalent even when the olfactory perception of breast milk was unpleasant, so that the importance of this food for childrens health stood out. Other representations were the discomfort caused by this smell and the care to minimize it, the support of partners, the detachment in interpersonal relationships, and the characterization of the smell/taste of milk. Conclusion: Acceptance was most evident among the social representations of the smell of milk. However, unpleasant perceptions were observed, evidencing that these features of human milk should be included in the guidelines for women and their families since prenatal care. Objective: To analyze womens social representations of the smell of breast milk. ABSTRACT Objective: to evaluate the effect of the board game as an educational technology on schoolchildren’s knowledge on breastfeeding. Method: cluster-randomized clinical trial, held in nine schools, with 99 children in the third grade of elementary school (control group = 51 and intervention group = 48). The pretest was conducted in both groups; intervention consisted in the application of the educational technology immediately after pretest to the intervention group; and the post-test was applied on the 7th and 30th days to both groups. For the analysis of children’s knowledge on breastfeeding, we considered the pre- and post-test score means, using the Mann-Whitney test - for comparing the means between groups - and the Wilcoxon test - within the same group. Results: there was no statistically significant difference between the groups in the pretest. In the follow-up, when comparing the groups, there were higher means in the intervention group, on the 7th (19.68 ±1.788) and on the 30th (20.16±1.260) days, with statistically significant difference. Within the intervention group, there was significant increase of the means in the pretest (15.89±3.082) for the 30th day (20.16±1.260). Conclusion: such educational intervention has significantly contributed to the increase in scores of children’s knowledge on breastfeeding for the intervention group. Walkiria da Silva Rocha; Estela Rodrigues Paiva Alves; Kay Francis Leal Vieira; Khivia Kiss da Silva Barbosa; Gerlaine de Oliveira Leite; Maria Djair Dias

The aim of this study was to identify factors that influence and facilitate crack use and factors that make it difficult to give up. This was a piece of qualitative research involving 20 crack users in Joao Pessoa, PB, in 2012. The data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire and analyzed using the Discourse of the Collective Subject technique. Easy access, curiosity, peer pressure and alcohol/marihuana use were all shown to be factors that influenced crack use and made it difficult to give up. It is suggested that the views and actions taken of the phenomenon of drug addiction be broadened and more comprehensive nursing care provided based on the factors uncovered in this study.
