Enhanced sensitization in mice by simultaneous injection of antigen and specific rabbit antiserum.

Geronimo Terres; William Wolins

Summary Mice were injected intravenously with a solution of serum albumin (human and bovine) plus specific rabbit antiserum in antigen excess. The antibody response to serum albumin was tested and compared to that obtained in mice injected intravenously with serum albumin alone or with albumin and normal rabbit serum. The results show that antibody response elicited with serum albumin plus specific rabbit antiserum is significantly greater than that elicited using serum albumin alone or with normal rabbit serum.

Adsorption of antibody in vitro and magnitude of the Schultz-Dale reaction of guinea-pig ileum.

Christen B. Nielsen; Geronimo Terres; George A. Feigen

Studies show that the adsorption of rabbit antiovalbumin-I131 on guinea-pig ileum conforms to a Langmuirian isotherm, and that the physiological response to challenge with antigen depends upon the amount of antibody bound to the tissue.

Sodium Transport and Specific Antiserum

Geronimo Terres; John X. Loughran

THE cytotoxic effects of tissue specific antibodies have been studied in vivo under conditions of auto-immunity (induced or idiopathic) and in vitro using cells in tissue culture1. Although much is known about the histochemical and morphological changes induced by specific antibodies, very little is known of the effect of specific antibodies on the active transport mechanisms of the cell membrane. We have used the urinary bladder of the toad (Bufo marinus) to test the effect of antibodies on the active transport of sodium.
