The objective of the present study was to describe the increase in diameter, height and volume of trees of Schizolobium amazonicum Huber ex Ducke and adjust a mathematical model to describe growth in terms of total volume in two plantations in the north of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Data were obtained through full analysis of the stem of 12 trees collected in two plantations. Four functions of volume growth according to age were tested. Growth in diameter, height and volume were compared through analysis of variance and Tukey test. The average growth for the two plantations, which had 16 years of age, in terms of DBH and total height were 30.1 and 32.2 cm; 29.2 and 23.9 m and volumetric production was 1.04 and 0.96 m3, respectively, for the plantations one (1) and two (2). There was a statistical difference (p <0.001) between the plantations only for the variable total height from the eighth year. The Richard’s (R2aj 0.82) and Logistic (R2aj 0.65) models had the best fit for the plantations one and two, respectively. Results pointed to the conclusion that S. amazonicum has rapid growth in the study area but this is still lower than the growth of the species in other Amazon states such as Pará, Acre and Rondônia.

The aims of this work was to determine risk areas with pesticide contamination on the Estiva stream watershed, a tributary of Urucui-Preto river, Brazil. Environmental data was used to determine layers of water way, infiltration and runoff with the transport of pesticide. The overlay of this information has generated a map with the risk areas with pesticide contamination. The basin had high human disturbance, with an increase of about 55% of land use and occupation by agricultural crops, in a period of approximately 27 years (1984-2011). An area of 269 Km2, correspondent to 11% of the basin area, has a high potential pesticide contamination risk, 45% medium contamination risk and 44% have little contamination risk.

The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the floristic composition, structure and horizontal diameter distribution of Alluvial Forest and Savannah located on a stretch of both riverside of the river Formiga in Campos Julio, Mato Grosso state. It was settled 20 plots of 10x25 m (250 m2) in the area of Alluvial Forest (23.9 ha on the right bank of the river) and 13 plots of 10x25 m (250 m2) in the Savannah area (18.1 ha on the left bank of the river), where all trees with DBH ≥ 10 cm were measured. The floristic composition was analyzed by the occurrence of tree species and plant families. To study the horizontal structure it was used the phytosociological estimators of density, dominance, frequency, amount of coverage and relative importance. As for the diameter distribution it was adjusted the Weibull, Beta and Gamma functions. The Alluvial Forest was presented with ecologically structured and stable values for wealth of 314 individuals, 25 families and 44 species. While the Savannah presented a phytosociological vegetation type with values of 100 individuals, belonging to 10 families and 11 species, most likely due to the characteristics of the soil (stony and dry) and competition (high presence of shrubs and grasses) for nutrients and water in the sampled area. In both types, the diameter distributions were in decreasing order, as the Weibull distribution was the only one set for both the data according to the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS).
