Structure and Properties of Rigid and Semirigid Liquid Crystalline Polyesters

One class of liquid crystalline polymers consists of rigid, rod-like materials containing predominantly symmetrical aromatic components. Their typically high melting points are lowered to permit melt processability by any of several methods which disrupt their highly regular, crystalline structures. Several thermal transitions occur in these materials: glass transition, crystalline to liquid crystalline, and finally clearing point to isotropic melt.
