Antimycobacterial activity of new ortho-, meta- and para-toluidine derivatives

Mariangela Biava; Rossella Fioravanti; Giancarlo Sleiter; Delia Deidda; Giorgio Lampis; Raffaello Pompei

Novel toluidine derivatives are described. Some of them showed an interesting in vitro activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, M. smegmatis, M. marinum, M. gordonae, and M. avium. Some of them were more active than Streptomycin and Isoniazid, which were used as controls, against M. avium and M. gordonae. In particular, we confirm the good activity of biphenyl derivatives.

A rapid and convenient synthesis of tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(O) and -platinum(O) complexes by phase-transfer catalysis

Marcella Ioele; Giancarlo Ortaggi; Marco Scarsella; Giancarlo Sleiter

Abstract The tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(O) and -platinum(O) complexes can be prepared with good yields from the corresponding dichlorobis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(II) and platinum(II) complexes using phase-transfer catalysis. A hypothesis on the mechanism is reported.

Intramolecular selectivity in the side-chain oxidation of alkylbenzenes under GifIV conditions.

Enrico Baciocchi; Ester Muraglia; Giancarlo Sleiter

Abstract The intramolecular selectivity in the side-chain oxidation of alkylbenzenes, under the GifIV conditions, has been determined. The 1°-C: 2°-C: 3°-C reactivity ratios are 1:5: 9.3 and little difference in reactivity is exhibited by methyl groups para and meta to a chloro substituent. It has also been found that these selectivities result from the operation of two competing oxidations pathways, one of which not requiring catalysis by FeIII. The catalyzed pathway is particularly effective towards secondary positions, as expected in GifIV-promoted oxidations.

ELECTROCHEMICALLY INDUCED N-ALKYLATION OF PYRROLES

Marta Feroci; Achille Inesi; Leucio Rossi; Giancarlo Sleiter

Electrochemically generated tetraethylammonium peroxydicarbonate (TEAPC) and tetraethylammonium carbonate (TEAC) react under very mild conditions with pyrroles affording, after addition of a suitable alkylating agent, the corresponding N-alkylated pyrroles in high yields. C-Alkylated pyrroles have not been isolated in any case reported.

Bis(ethynyl)-polymers

L. D'Ilario; A. Ettorre; G. Ortaggi; Giancarlo Sleiter

Poly(2,5-thiophenediyl)ethynylene and poly[ethynylene(2,5-thiophenediyl)ethynylene], synthesized in our laboratory, have been investigated in order to characterize their physicochemical properties. The optical and infrared spectra of the two polymers were studied as well as their thermal properties by means of differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The electrical conductivity of the two polymers in the pristine state and in the I2-doped one has been measured and the effects due to the doping on the spectroscopic and thermal properties have been studied.
